Chapter 23: THE CELLAR AND THE LAB

The scene beings at the top of the wall. After Armin's transformation into a Titan and eating Bertholdt, he passed out and the others brought him to higher ground. Four hours later, said boy wakes up and sees that he's in a sleeping bag where an injured Sasha was beside him.

Armin: Bertholdt...

Sasha: (eyes still closed) it hurts.

Armin: (looks over)

Sasha: (groans in pain) it hurts so badly.

Armin: wait, are you—? (Goes over to her) whoa. Sasha! (Sees her bandages) you're in horrible shape. What happened to you?

She doesn't respond, but a voice was heard not too far from them.

Eren: (runs to them) you're up!

Armin: Eren.

Eren then hugs Armin. Armin's a bit surprised, especially when Eren releases a shaken breath.

Eren: Armin. I'm so glad you're back.

Sounds of ODM were heard, and Levi and Oswald arrived up, too.

Oswald: Armin, you're okay!

Levi: 'bout time.

Armin: Captain. What happened? I saw Bertholdt transform, but then everything gets kind of blurry. (Gasps) did we fight them off? Is everyone okay?

Levi: it sounds to me like your recent memory was just about wiped out.

Armin: huh?

Levi: Eren. Tell him everything.

Armin looks over to Eren, who just looks away as Levi fired a signal flare. A few minutes later, the other soon joined them. Armin was caught up to speed, and was in a lot of shock at knowing he not only nearly died, but he killed and ate Bertholdt in order to save his life.

Levi: okay. Are you up to speed now?

Armin: yeah... We won... But of the Scout Regiment, there are only eleven soldiers left alive. All of us.

Jean: that's what it looks like. The fighting ended four hours ago. We've been searching for survivors, but... no luck.

Oswald: (without looking at them) not even anyone else from the Colossal Titan transformation.

Armin: so, to be clear, we resealed Shinganshina's gate, securing Wall Maria. Reiner, the Beast Titan, and a man claiming to be Oswald's uncle escaped, along with that quadruped. You managed to capture Bertholdt. And then, with both the commander and me wounded, you had to choose which of us to give the injection to. And you did. I transformed into a Titan and killed Bertholdt. I...ate him.

With the knowledge fully processed, he couldn't help but nearly throw up. Jean handed him some water, and he drinks most of it down.

Zen Aku: this'll definitely be bad for his mental state.

Oswald's Thoughts: why's that?

Zen Aku: remember back when he killed that girl from Kenny's squad? He threw up and was in shock over it. He did it again, but had no control over his actions this time. Now, he's in possession of not only the biggest Titan, but the more destructive one out of all of them. Armin doesn't even know that that one can control the amount of power it releases when transforming. So, unless he gets the hang of it, I suggest we stay as far away as possible when he starts practicing with that.

Oswald's Thoughts: controlling the transformation... That explains when the Colossal Titan appeared the last few times, they were regular transformations instead of the explosion. Could we do something like that?
