Chapter 26: BEYOND THE WALL (End of S3)

The scene shows the full Wolf Pack, including Historia, in the meeting room where they were looking face-to-face with Zen Aku. Both Eren and Oswald had shared their stories of the past they've learned. For Eren, he saw the memories of his father through the Attack Titan's gift of sight. Grisha was from Marley until he was taken to Paradise where he met the previous holder of his Titan. He told about how every Titan was connected to a single coordinate: The Founding Titan.

Oswald had shared what he learned of his past, but decided to allow Zen Aku to speak of Fenrir.

Hange: we've heard from both Eren and Oswald about their pasts. So tell us, Zen Aku, who or what are you?

Zen Aku: to put it simply, I'm the physical embodiment of the spirit of Fenrir—the Lord of All Wolves. When we were children, my brother, sister, and I were separated. I remained with the gods, but only one showed me any compassion. The rest treated me as a monster, a wild beast that needed to be put in a cage. One day, they used my only friend to betray me, and trapped me in unbreakable rope, and took my sons.

Armin: that's why you don't trust us. You're afraid the same thing will happen to both you and Oswald.

Zen Aku: after what happened to Oswald, I can't take any chances. When Fenrir died, the mead he consumed allowed him to reincarnate into me. I met Ymir at the Coordinate, and used her powers to create the Wolf Titan.

Hange: why?

Zen Aku: she wants freedom, and believes I might be the key to that. I am the only Titan that isn't a subject of Ymir, and the only one the king has no control over.

Mikasa: why didn't you remember this before?

Zen Aku: it was three thousand years ago. During that time, my mind had become damaged and it resulted in me forgetting most of my past. As for Oswald, he was very young when the events happened. As such, his subconscious blocked it all out in an effort to relieve him from the trauma. But, when Ymir connected with us, those memories were repaired.

Eren: if you were to claim the Founding Titan, then you could stop all of this. You can save humanity.

Zen Aku: I cannot.

His then fades out as Oswald was in control again.

Oswald: because it wouldn't stop. You said it yourself, Eren—the king doesn't want war, and is willing to let the world wipe us out of existence. Even if I had the Founding's powers, people would never stop wanting us dead.

Jean: so no matter what we do, we're basically screwed. This blows.

Sasha: wait, I just thought of something. You said that shifters have a shorter lifespan. So, if Eren has 8 years left, and Armin has 13, how long do you have?

Oswald: by technicality, 13 years. However, they've been injecting various serums in me for the past three years. And because my Titan wasn't made by normal means, I'm honestly not sure how much time I have left.

Mikasa: that can't be. Neither you or Eren and Armin are dying.

Levi: that's the hard truth, Mikasa. You have to accept that.

Mikasa: (glares at him) you're saying you're okay with them dying?!

Levi: (glares back) you think I am? (Gestures to Oswald) this kid's been through more Hell then any of us combined! He saw his parents murdered, his uncle betrayed and sold him off, and he's on a shorter life because of these damn Titans. Of course I'm not fine with any of this. (Beat) I get you don't want your friends dying, but just like Zen Aku said, we all will die eventually. And one day, people will look back at this, and not even remember any of us or the ones who gave their lives to this world.
