Chapter 20: BATTLE OF MARIA (part 2)

The scene shows right where we left off as Reiner roars loudly before going limp.

Petra: we hit him with a full barrage, and half his head is missing! How is he still alive!?

Hange: doesn't matter! Use your Thunder Spears! If we want him dead, we'll have to destroy his whole body!

Armin's Thoughts: that scream just now... Was it for Bertholdt?

He looks up, and sees a barrel hurling in the sky.

Armin: (gasps) Hange, wait! We need to fall back for now! (Points to the sky) see that barrel? I'm sure Bertholdt's inside! If he transforms, we're done for!

Hange: shit! Everyone, move away from the Armored Titan! The Colossal Titan is falling towards us right now!

Everyone began to move away, including their two titans. Inside the barrel, Bertholdt was about to transform, but sees Reiner's body. He exits the barrel to investigate.

Bertholdt: REINER!!! (Lands down next to him) Reiner, are you...? (Checks his body) what the—? He's still alive! He must've transferred his consciousness throughout his entire nervous system. We talked about it, but only as a last resort. To think that he would actually need to. It's hard to believe they cornered you like this. Damn it. (Beat) Reiner. I need you to do something for me. You're gonna have to move just a little bit. And if you can't, then I'm sorry. Prepare for the worst. (Stands up) I'm ending this war.

With the others, they look in the direction where Bertholdt was.

Hange: (sighs) here we go. Our mission's primary objective just fell right into our laps. You could call this a stroke of luck.

Moblit: (gasp) hey look! Someone's coming our way! It's Bertholdt!

Hange: the plan is as follows! Armin, you take command of Wolf Pack. Protect Eren. Everyone else, come with me! We've got two targets to eliminate! Big Bad Wolf, you're with us.

Scout: right!

They take off with the wolf following them. However, Armin flies next to Hange.

Armin: wait, hold on!

Hange: what? Why?

Armin: this is the only chance we'll get to negotiate!

Not waiting for a response, Armin goes ahead, and lands on a roof.

Armin: stop, Bertholdt! Just wait a minute!

He seemed to listen to him, as Bertholdt lands on a building across from him. The others don't move.

Eren's Thoughts: Armin, what are you trying to achieve?

Armin: (yells) we don't have to fight! Let's talk this over!

Bertholdt: (yells) if I agree to talk, would you all be willing to lay down and die?! We only want three simple things! Eren Yeager, Oswald, and the death of everyone in the walls! That's the harsh truth of our situation. Understand? All of your fates have been decided!

Armin: what? And who is it that decided that?!

Bertholdt: (lowered voice) I did.

Armin: what was that?

Bertholdt: it was me, Armin! I decided your lives should end here and now!

Armin: (glares) that's a real shame, Bertholdt. See I was hoping, I'd get to finally stop hearing Annie scream!

Hearing her name, Bertholdt couldn't help but gasp.

Armin: you're the only person who can save her from the savages in the Military Police, and that's you! If you don't, she'll be fed to the pigs!
