The smell of disinfectant was the first thing that hit Sicheng's nose when he gained his senses. His mind was a bit foggy, not being able to concentrate anything for a while, head pounding as if someone had just smashed it against a wall. After his blurry eyes got their clear eyesight back again, he saw himself on a bed, no not just any bed. A hospital bed. He was in a hospital. But why?
He saw two faces staring curiously at him, one had green hair and another had pink hair. "Hi," the green haired teenager spoke out. "I'm Chenle and this is my boyfriend Jisung," he said, gesturing to the tall, pink haired boy.
"We found you in an alleyway unconscious. Do you remember what happened?", Jisung asked.
Just as Sicheng was about to answer, a doctor came in, pulling the curtains aside. "Ah, it's good to see you awake. You've been out all night. It's a good thing these two boys called the ambulance, otherwise you would've lost some blood. May I know your name, please?"
Sicheng nodded, not quite grasping the situation, "Dong Sicheng. W-what happened to m-me? Why am I h-here?"
"Do you not remember, Mr. Dong? You had a mild concussion. We have kept you on medicines for now, but you'll have to take a lot of rest. We'll maybe discharge you in two or three days.", the doctor said, checking his vitals. "Is there anyone you want to call?
I guess nobody knows. Maybe I'll call Ten...or Yuta. He nodded, reaching out for his phone by the side table. Switching it on, he noticed several calls and messages from both Yuta and Ten, even some from Renjun.
Yutakoyaki <3: Where are you? Ten called me and said you hadn't reached home. Are you okay? Petal, please say something. Did anything happen to you? Sicheng please tell me something. I'm worried.
Yutakoyaki <3: 127 missed calls.
Tenouttaten: 119 missed calls.
Junnie:22 missed calls.
"Oh my God," Sicheng whispered. "They must be so worried." He dialed Yuta's number, but it went straight to his voicemail. "Hey Yuta," the Chinese started, "I'm at the, uh, hospital. Guess you're at college now. I'll explain everything when you come here. Let Ten know too, if possible. Take care, I love you."
Sicheng sighed as he set his phone on the table. He still couldn't remember what happened to him last night, and it was bothering him so much. Feeling two pairs of eyes on him, Sicheng looked up to see Chenle and Jisung staring at him, their heads tilted.
"You both are still here? Don't you have any classes?", he asked.
Chenle shook his head, "Our classes got cancelled for today. Do you want something to eat or drink?"
Sicheng shook his head slowly. His head was starting to feel heavy and his eyes were threatening to close, the effects of the medicines starting to kick in. Without even noticing, he slipped into a deep slumber.
🍀
A hand gently threading through his hair was what woke Sicheng up. Opening his eyes, he was met with Yuta's serene face. "Hey...", the younger croaked out, his voice hoarse from sleeping.
"Hey, Petal. Did I wake you up?", Yuta asked, his voice calm and soothing. "Do you need something?"
The younger nodded, taking his tim to get up and leaning against the propped up pillows. "Water," he said.
Handing Sicheng a glass of water, Yuta took in the Chinese's condition. A bandage was wrapped around his head and he seemed weak. A small bruise was forming on the right side of his cheek. Who did this?
"Hey Petal," Yuta started, "Do you have any inkling of what happened to you?"
Setting the glass on the table, the student shook his head. "No matter how much I try to remember what happened, nothing comes to my mind. I just can't remember," he solemnly replied.
Yuta took Sicheng's head in his, gently running his thumb over the younger's knuckles. "Don't pressurize yourself, Sicheng. It'll all come to you. Right now let's forget it, okay?"
The younger hummed, intertwining their fingers together. Looking around the room, Sicheng noticed that his best friend was missing. "Where's Ten?"
"Ah, Ten was here. But he went back to your apartment when he saw you weren't waking up. He said he'll come you visit tomorrow," Yuta relayed.
"Okay..."
"Do you want me to get you some pizza from the café nearby?"
"Oh my God, yes please! The food sucks here!"
🍀
Sicheng was kept at the hospital for three more days. He had a few side effects like nausea and headaches, but he was getting better as each day passed. Yuta was with him all the time. In the morning, he'd go to college and then spend the rest of the day by Sicheng's side.
Though he didn't say anything, Yuta was very worried about Sicheng. The older could barely sleep at night, and the dark circles under his eyes were a proof of that. Hundreds of questions swirled around in his head.
Who did this?
Why would they do something like this?
Was it intentional?
Why was their target Sicheng?
Were they paid to do something like this?
Even though he had his mind opened to a wider view of possibilities, Yuta couldn't just help but think of one name.
Ji-hoon.
There was a hefty amount of chance that Ji-hoon had done this to Sicheng. Looking at it, Ji-hoon had been pestering the younger from the time they broke up. He was only violent once, but after that he only threatened the Chinese. Also, Ji-hoon would never do anything that would put Sicheng's life on the line. That man was all bark and no bite. But the questions still remain:
Why would he do something so dangerous? Is there anyone ordering him?
