Inkpaw padded into camp with her head down, anxiousness smothered her thoughts. What does that prophecy mean? She pondered so many questions. Are the clans in danger? Is her clan in danger? Is FlyClan in trouble? All of this prophecy stuff was far too much for Inkpaw.
As Inkpaw numbly padded into the heart of GorgeClan, Spottedpaw and Olivepaw exchanged worried glances, the two apprentices were concerned about their best friend. The wind howled on the surface of the ravine. "Inkpaw-" Spottedpaw began, a worried expression on her tortoiseshell face, but Inkpaw ignored her. Pushing through the crowd of cats, Inkpaw's mind was filled. Pepperfur was dead, there's a threat to the clans, Inkpaw became behind in her training. She needed to get away.
The apprentice decided tonight, she'll sneak out of camp just to go think and explore. She hasn't gotten out much since Pepperfur's passing. Inkpaw feared that if she didn't get out of camp tonight, she'd never go out of her den.
Rueheart padded into the den, carefully. Inkpaw's ears perked in her mother's direction. The pawsteps stopped, she heard an audible wince. "Inkpaw, dear." Rueheart paused. "I know you miss Pepperfur and I know you, but please don't try to interfere with the clan's politics. We don't know, SmogFernClan could be lying." Inkpaw sat up with a hiss. "Oakbranch is GorgeClan blood!" Inkpaw hissed. "GorgeClan doesn't lie!" Rueheart took a pace back, eyes wide. "But Snowymist, his mother, is Gardenflights' kit. He's half-clan." The clans were still pretty "new," so the word "half-clan" still makes some cat's blood boil, like Willowleg's. The elder was passing by as he heard the word and bristled.
Willowleg was Thistlethorn's father, and Thistlethorn was Oakbranch's father. Once Willowleg found out his son had become mates with a she-cat from GardenClan, he was furious. Now that Snowymist and Thistlethorn are dead, Willowleg becomes even more furious when he hears anything about half-clan anything, sometimes even alliances.
"Rueheart, mom." Inkpaw forced her fur to lie flat. "Can you just leave me alone? Dad left us for a reason, didn't he?" Her temper grew hotter and hotter. The black warrior's ears pinned to her head. The black she was speechless, her eyes were dull with pain and wide with shock.
After those words came out of her mouth, she immediately regretted it. "Mom I-" Inkpaw tried to comfort the she who had tears forming in her eyes. She hadn't realize her older sister had walked in. "Hey, mom." The deputy soothed their mother. "It's okay, Inkpaw didn't mean it. Try to understand her side too." Hauntingripple shot a worried glance to the apprentice and padded out, her tail curled around Rueheart.
I know you didn't mean it. Hauntingripple mouthed to Inkpaw. Inkpaw felt guilt nipping at her stomach. She curled back up into her nest and let the warmth and darkness of sleep to take her. She had to rest for tonight after all.
