It had been three days since I was back in Westside. We had enjoyed a few days in New York after that night and then left and reached on Friday so we had the weekend to relax. I was getting ready for school when my mom came and told me that Cole (a.k.a Blake's dad) and her were planning to have the wedding the following month. Since a week of December had already passed, there were only 3 weeks till January. I was happy for her. She'd finally got engaged to someone she liked, unlike all her other failed boyfriends.
School was the usual boring until lunch. Kaycee and I were casually talking at lunch when we heard the whole cafeteria get a notification on their phones. Someone must've posted something on the school blog. Kaycee and I looked at each other confused. Why would someone post something in the middle of a school day? Lakewood High's blog usually had a new post every Saturday and Sunday.
I opened my phone and saw an article that said "she's a dyke not a princess, anything to confess?" So we have homophobes in our school... It was posted anonymously and I clicked on the article to see just one picture. Kaycee and I looked at each other the moment we had seen it. Someone had been outed. It was picture of two girls almost naked in a bedroom, making out. They were still wearing innerwear but it was still pretty exposed. One girl was faced the opposite way, hidden, but the other girl was seen. Why would someone take a photo of this? They had no right. And to post it on the blog?! This world was really messed up. It was shocking... because we knew her. The thought had obviously never really crossed my mind since she had slept with boys. Leah was lesbian?
In a few seconds the whole cafeteria was filled with whispers and people pointing fingers.
Voices of people thinking out loud filled the school. "Who is she?", "That's Leah, the girl who got into a fight last month", "Are you sure? We can't exactly see her whole face," "Who do you think the other girl is?", "Why did she sleep with Ryan if she's lesbian?", "Is she bisexual?", "The post said lesbian", "Ew she's gross."
The fact that homophobic people still existed disgusted me. Sophie and Leslie got up from their table because of the looks they were getting since Leah was sitting with them. Michelle, Rhea and Courtney followed.
She was left alone, with everyone staring at her, either insulting or laughing at her. I could see she was trying to hold back tears and when she couldn't hold it anymore, she walked out of the cafeteria.
"I can't help but feel sorry for her... Even after all she's done..." Kaycee said.
I simply nodded and we finished our lunch before leaving to go back to classes.
Apparently Leah had gone home early as I heard from the gossip after school.
"I feel like we should talk to her," I said to Kaycee as we walked towards the parking lot.
"I don't know... Maybe we should just text or call or something, considering she ditched us, became a mean bitch and happened to be sleeping with my boyfriend when she knew I was with him."
When she put it like that, Leah was a horrible person.
"Okay, I'll text her," I replied.
Sydyoubetextingme : Hey Lee, are you okay?"
Of course she wasn't okay, but that was probably the only way you could start a conversation after a situation like this.
She replied almost instantly.
Leahonimo17 : I'm sorry Syd, can we all talk?"
"She asked me if we all could talk," I told Kaycee.
"What? Why would she do that?"
"Maybe she realised her 'so called friends' aren't her friends."
"Ask her what she means by we all," Kaycee said and I did just that. She replied saying Kay, her and me. Well, that was confirmed.
Sydyoubetextingme : okay, where?
Leahonimo17 : you guys can come over
So after informing our parents we were gonna be late, we headed to Leah's.
She opened the door and told us her parents were out. That was obvious though, her parents were barely ever home considering they were both doctors. It was awkward standing in front of her porch. She had become a different person and I saw Kaycee shift uncomfortably as well. In fact, I was still surprised Kaycee even agreed to come as she hated her with all her guts for what she had done. "Come on in," she finally said and we walked in.
"I'm sorry I've been such a bitch," she stated.
"As you should be," Kaycee said and rolled her eyes.
"Do you wanna tell us what happened?" I asked her. She seemed to be disgusted at the incident. Nevertheless, she started talking.
"Well, I kissed a girl..." she said. No shit Sherlock, we had already seen that. "Are you bisexual?" I asked. Was that too wrong of me? To get straight to the point? I don't know why but I felt like I was taking the conversation too fast. What if she didn't want to come out?
"No, I'm bisexual minus the boys..."
"So then why did you have sex with Ryan?" Kaycee asked offended. She wasn't wrong though. If Leah didn't like boys why did she do that? Kaycee was still a little hurt about that breakup but she was getting over it. She had also started to like Max, so that was helping.
"I just- I don't know- I wanted to just see if I felt anything... or even sexually was attracted to- you know, boys..."
"Did you?" Kaycee asked. "Well obviously not as I just told you. I like girls. Not boys," she replied.
"Hey but if Ryan had the audacity to even cheat on you, he was never worth it. You were too good for him," I told Kaycee trying to subside the negative energy she was sending out.
"I wasn't out to anyone. And now suddenly the whole school knows. I haven't even come out to my parents. Hell, I was still in denial. I'm really sorry about leaving you guys, I really don't know what had come upon me. I didn't want you to find out about Ryan and I guess I was a little insecure that you guys might feel uncomfortable around me if you knew I was gay. Being with those other girls... I mean, I don't think they mattered to me, so I didn't care... If I could undo what I have done, I would. Can we be friends again?"
I looked at Kaycee and she nodded.
So that was great... I think. Everything was back to normal. Except the picture was still up.
"Who's the girl?" Kaycee asked.
"Oh don't even get me started on her. I like her, I really like her. She's closeted so I can't tell you who she is but I'm sure she's ashamed and embarrassed for being gay. She thinks I'm beneath her. I don't know if it'll ever happen..." she said with tears starting to form in her eyes. "She wasn't there when I needed her. She acted like nothing had happened and looked at me like she didn't know me..." Leah finished now full out crying.
Now I really felt bad for her. We pulled her towards us and hugged. We stayed in the same position until she had calmed down.
