imagine: you're given one last phone call before everything disappears forever; hyunjin would be your last call
y/n's pov
the phone was pressed against your ear, listening to the sound of ringing before it fell silent.
"hello?" hyunjin spoke softly as he answered your call.
you bit your lip anxiously, tears escaping your eyes as you listening to his voice once more. you hadn't heard him speak in so long, you just wanted to hear him say your name.
"who is it?" he sighed, questioning the unknown caller upon his phone.
you whimpered before holding yourself back, chewing your lip in attempt to quieten yourself.
"y/n...?"
hearing him call your name was taunting. you didn't think you'd be able to talk to him, you stayed silent.
"y/n, is that you?"
the tears fell from your eyes as he spoke your name a second time, "hyunjin," you cried to him. "can you hear me?"
"i can hear you," he sniffled, crying through his speaker, "i can hear you," he said again.
you didn't want to keep hurting him with your words, you wanted your last conversation to see how he was.
"have you been eating well?" you hummed, smiling through the phone as you waited for him to speak once more.
"where are you?" he spoke lowly, as though he was angry. you couldn't expect a different reaction, you don't remember how long it's been, but you knew it was a while. "y/n, tell me where you are. i'll come and get you, okay?"
you glanced over at the hand holding the phone to your ear, staring at his silhouette on the floor - you were scared by even his stance, gulping as you returned your attention to hyunjin's soothing voice.
"i'm okay," although your smile was fake, you couldn't help but grin at the sound of his crying - it didn't please you one bit to know how hurt he was, but you could finally hear him one last time before you'd leave him forever. "don't worry."
"y/n," he spoke your name again, crying harder, "where are you? tell me. are you hurt?"
"i'm..." you paused, struggling to give anything away, "...tired," you finished.
"it's okay, i'll come and get you. just tell me where you are, please."
"i don't have long," you hiccupped, trying to hold back the flood of tears, "i just wanted to hear your voice."
"y/n-"
"i was there."
"y/n isn't here," hyunjin screamed into chan's shoulder, letting his arms fall to the side of his body whilst he pressed his face into chan. "why aren't they here?"
"you couldn't see me, but i was there," you nodded, crying to him. "i'm proud of you, hyunjin."
"please come home."
"i'll be there every time, watching."
"please."
"hyunjin," you paused, taking a deep breath and smiling weakly at his sigh, "thank you for waiting. but-"
"stop."
"-you don't need to wait for me anymore."
"y/n, please-"
"do you love me?" you gulped.
he was taken aback, but didn't hesitate with his answer. "of course, i do."
"then let me go."
you could hear him shaking his head against the phone, "i can't. i have to know you're okay-"
you weren't okay, but you couldn't admit that to him.
"tell me honestly, please," he stuttered.
you couldn't lie to him, but telling him the truth would just hurt him more.
"i'm okay."
those were the last words you'd say to hyunjin, and you felt unaccomplished. you didn't tell him you loved him, too. you'd never have that chance again.
the call cut off, and the phone was pulled away from your ear.

hyunjin dropped the phone, looking over to chan. "did they track the phone?"
"yeah," he nodded, "we found them."
