Nights in the Gerudo Desert were always freezing cold. The kind of cold that seeped into your bones and would send shivers up your spine. Which explains why none of the Yiga particularly enjoyed standing outside for guard duty.
The giant rust-colored mountains that hid the Yiga hideout did little to block out the obnoxious chill.
Little did the two foot-soldiers standing guard outside know, that tonight was a night that would turn the tides in the Yiga's favor.
They trudged outside the rocky entrance, immediately being hit by the icy wind.
"Ugh! This is so unfair; I did guard duty four nights ago!" One foot-soldier spat. "I hate this stupid desert sometimes."
The other foot-soldier unsheathed his sickle and rolled his eyes. "Oh, hush up, Cade," he replied, stepping into his position by the left side of the door.
Cade grunted in annoyance, and shifted towards the right, unsheathing his own sickle.
"Whatever you say, Rindo..."
An irritating quiet hung in the air around them. The only sound coming from the cold breeze.
"I can't believe it's been like...what...almost three months since Kohga died?" Cade whispered to his partner.
"Yeah, tell me about it. We haven't pulled a big raid on the Gerudo in months, not since the thunder helm situation happened," Rindo replied.
"Ugh, that foolish knight just had to swoop in and save the day, I mean, do you really think there's a reason for us to still be a clan if Gannon's defeated?" Cade asked.
"Well, I mean we..." Rindo's voice trailed off; he looked around the canyon.
Cade raised an eyebrow under his mask. "What's gotten into you?" He chuckled lightly.
Rindo held up his hand in front of him. "Can you shut up for a second?" He hissed through gritted teeth, turning his ear towards the open air.
"I hear footsteps."
Cade laughed, smacking the wall. "Footsteps? In the middle of the night, in the coldest desert in Hyrule, in our canyon?" He cackled as if it was the funniest joke he'd ever heard.
That was, until he heard them too.
"There they are! See, I'm not crazy!" Rindo hissed, drawing his sickle, preparing to attack.
It wasn't long before the two foot-soldiers could make out a cloaked figure, slowly making its way towards them.
"An intruder!" Cade whisper-shouted. "Those pesky Gerudos..."
"Are you stupid? That doesn't look like a Gerudo..." Rindo replied, drawing closer to the edge of the stony ledge they were on.
The hooded figure kept getting nearer, showing no signs of slowing down. Cade decided to take out his own sickle.
"Hey! You there! We can see you, ya' know!" He yelled.
"You've been caught red-handed!" Rindo backed him up.
Yet, the figure kept walking, completely unfazed by their warnings. The cloak they wore swayed in the chilly wind.
For once, Cade and Rindo didn't feel so intimidating; stripped of their power by the intruder's eerie silence.
"W-we have sickles and we're not afraid to use them!" Cade shouted again.
This time, the figure stopped moving, it looked up at them, speaking in a relaxed and somewhat icy voice.
"I mean you no harm, Yiga," the mysterious stranger called.
They slowly pulled off the black hood they were wearing, revealing a woman with short, jet-black, hair.
Cade and Rindo eyed her suspiciously. They looked at each other, then back at her.
"We're coming down there, stay where you are!" Cade shouted.
Quickly, the two Yigas made their way down the rocky slopes and ledges, past the stolen Shekiah statues that had been covered and blindfolded with Yiga Symbols, drawing nearer and nearer to the mysterious intruder.
Weapons raised; they approached her.
"Who are you and what business have you here?" Rindo said, pointing his sickle at her, about a foot shy of her face.
The cloaked woman couldn't help but chuckle a little.
"What's so funny, huh?" Cade sneered at her.
"Oh nothing," the woman said. "I just came by to talk. You Yiga lost your leader recently, am I correct?" She asked.
The foot-soldiers remained silent for a moment, before Cade spoke up again.
"Why should we reveal anything to you?" He asked, crossing his arms over his chest.
The woman smiled sweetly at him, not bothered at all by his aggression.
"It was that wretched knight who defeated him, right? Those few months ago...the same one who slayed Gannon..."
"Why do you ask...?" Rindo inquired, lowering his sickle slightly.
"Well, you see, before he fell, Gannon entrusted me with some of his power. I, like you, am one of his allies and I seek to avenge his defeat," she said.
Rindo and Cade stood motionless.
The woman ran her fingers through her hair. "As a matter of fact, I have a plan up my sleeve, and I'd appreciate some like-minded people to help me out."
Before either of the two Yiga could respond, the front entrance they had been standing guard at, opened. One of the bigger and bulkier blade-master Yigas stepped out.
"Cade! Rindo! What are you two doing away from your-" the blade-master noticed the woman they were talking to. "Who is she? Is she an intruder?!" He thundered.
"Fear not, Yiga, I come baring no arms," the woman replied, "I simply wish to speak with all of you about something important."
Cade stepped forward. "Sir! She claims she wields some of Gannon's power, and says she has a plan we can take down the knight and princess with!" He shouted.
The blade-master looked between all of them, he sheathed the windcleaver he had taken out.
"And what is this stranger's name?" He asked, a hint of genuine curiosity in his voice.
The woman stepped forward; as she did so, purple and red wisps of light encircled her. It sure enough, looked like Gannon's power.
"I..." she said, pulling off her cloak completely. "Am Mistress Dume, bearer of the dark lord Gannon's power, and I have a plan that will not only avenge our fallen leader but will get rid of that heinous princess and her knight, once and for all," she declared.
Dume looked around at the stunned three Yiga.
"...And I need a little help executing my plan," she said, ending her sentence with a smile.
