Skylanders: Shrink Squad

Foreword

Skylanders Shrink Squad is a for fun imaginary Skylanders 7 game complete with a roster of 32 new characters and a story mode as well. In this seventh entry to the series, you lead the Skylanders in a fight against some brand new villains, The Mist and The King of Chaos, as they put their new plans into action.

This story is set up so that there's the Story version of the level followed by the objectives and level walkthrough in a separate chapter. Story versions are written by Gaming Scientist and give just the level's story including dialogue and cutscenes. The Chapter Walkthrough is a description of the level and where everything is located, detailing the paths taken, enemies fought, and hidden items along the way. 

There is also a separate story on Wattpad that can be found under the name Shrink Squad Characters that gives complete character sheets for all 42 characters.

As for the gimmick of the game, each member has the ability to shrink to small sizes with the press of the right trigger. While in this shrunken state you are unable to take damage, but also unable to attack enemies. While shrunken, you are also able to find hidden areas through out the levels and enter Shrink Zones. Shrunken characters are also harder to be spotted by enemies, allowing for you to sneak up on groups of enemies without them knowing. 

The gimmick wasn't expanded on much more than that so as to make it that you could play as Skylanders from previous games and not feel so much like you're missing out on a lot of the game.

Elemental gates are returning for each of the levels and there is a new variation of Sky Stones called Shrink Stones.

Shrink Stones is the classic skystones from Giants and Imaginators only with a twist. In shrink stones there is the typical three by three square where you will place your sky stone (You collect them at shops or from games back at the academy to get a better deck) the stone with the most teeth will overtake another stone. Here's the shrinking twist though; Every four stones that are placed, a random one will be shrunken into non-existence, clearing its space and taking away the point for whoever currently owns the stone. The game ends when all nine squares are filled and the person with the most in their possession wins.

For the Shrink Zones, you must shrink down to enter them. They then have a timed maze that you have to get through with obstacles relating to the level you are currently on. You shrink and grow to avoid them and get around. You get one star for completing it on time, two stars for finding one red gem and completing it, and three for finding both rubies and completing it on time. One star typically awards you some gold, two stars XP, and the third star is the big prize of either a soul gem or treasure chest.

On top of that, PvP is back! The Colosseum is located at the Academy and houses many different challenges and extras. In it you can do PvP, replay boss battles, do heroic challenges, and much more. The Colosseum is also decorated with the legendary treasures you unlock throughout the story mode.

There is also an official boss battle for Chapter 1 that is available to play thanks to Gaming Scientist. His reflection on the creation of the level can be found at the end of the story, so make sure you check it out. It gives interesting insights into the creation of the level and all of its inner mechanisms as well as plans to adapt more chapters and characters into the gameplay.
