Introduction
The Chaos Kingdom was my first attempt at making a non-boss level. I originally built it between 1 July and 24 September 2022, featuring Pepperjack from the Rolling Dunes Resort (RDR). That draft established the basic level design and a button-based story progression. I then revisited it between 29 June and 13 July 2023 to make some quality of life features, including importing Frost Bite and Whiplash's movesets, replacing most of the story buttons with actual text from the Skylanders for a faster playthrough, and slightly rewriting the story.The Clowns
The very first enemy I made was the Jester because I wanted to get their line of sight mechanic out of the way as soon as possible. Their attack style is slightly different from previous enemies': when they are above half health, BurgZerg Arcade's line of sight laser only checks if a target capsule behind the Skylander body is visible. If it is, they creep forward at 4 speed (Pepperjack, Frost Bite, and the Monster Marsh's speeds). Once they dip below half health, their speed increases to 6 (Whiplash and Red's speeds), and their laser just needs to check if either the Skylander body or the target is visible.I duplicated them for the Arena Room and Finale because I could not get them to preemptively enter phase 2 after the player progresses past the maze. This Jester automatically begins in their second phase and moves at that phase's speed.
All Jesters perform a clapping slash like the Cuddles in Trap Team.
The next enemy was the Joke Troll. She references Trap Team's Eggsecutioners in the Phoenix Psanctuary by flipping her mace in her hand and slamming it diagonally.
The Jump Joker is the only non-boss enemy who does not chase down the Skylanders. They instead teleport to the Jester's capsule every 4-9 seconds before slashing like the Ancient Woods' Beast Fairy.
Not too much can be said about the Funny Bomber. He is a Shadow Fairy who delays his pursuit for two seconds after spawning. I reduced his health to 1 on all difficulties because defeating him during his delay was too frustrating.
When I first built the game, I gave each enemy a massive health boost so they could stand a chance against Pepperjack's C attack. This resulted in the Jester having slightly more health than the three minibosses, and they and the Jump Joker could not be defeated quickly during the Finale. I then nerfed the two enemies to their current values in Chart 1.3.
