Chapter Four:
I groaned and rolled over. The sun poured through my curtains and made my eyes water.
"Fucking sunlight," I muttered to myself and got up.
After taking a shower, i got dressed and grabbed my phone before heading downstairs. I checked my notifications as I put a couple of pieces of toast in the toaster oven. I scrolled through Facebook for a minute before I got a notification pop up across the top of my screen saying I had a text message from a number I didn't know.
I opened the text message and read it quickly, smiling. It said:
"Hey, its Daniel. Just wanted to make sure you made it home safely."
I quickly replied, "Nah. I decided to just camp in a ditch last night with a hobo named Philip."
I put the phone down and pulled out the pieces of now pretty much burnt bread. I sighed, "Can't really afford to throw these pieces away."
I pulled out the cream cheese and began to slather on unhealthy amounts across the bread to cover up the horrendous taste of burntness. I heard my phone buzz and I licked the cream cheese off my finger before sliding it across the screen to unlock my phone. It was another text from Daniel.
"I hope you're kidding. I'd really hate to have to kill a hobo first thing in the morning."
"Why would you kill him?"
....
"No reason. So what are you doing today? Do you work?"
"No, I have the day off. I don't really have anything planned, though I should probably clean up around here. I extremely lack the motivation though."
"Well would you like to join me for lunch at The Silver Dollar Diner in an hour and then maybe I could help you clean for a bit?"
I smiled, happy with myself that I didn't creep him out of tell too much and make him run last night. I quickly replied with a yes, excited to see Daniel again.
Snake's POV:
I sat in a both across form the door, sipping a black coffee. I kept my eyes trained on the door, waiting for the familiar red head. The door was slowly pushed open and Sophi she step through. She looked around the diner before catching my eye, she smiled and headed over towards me. Sliding in the booth across from me.
"Hey Daniel," she said, her voice very cheery.
"Hey," I replied.
An elderly lady came over and took Sophi's order. I shook my head, declining any food when she turned to me. She shrugged and walked away.
"You're not hungry?" Sophi asked me, brows furrowed.
I shook my head, "No. I'll be okay. So explain to me what exactly are these fries you ordered?"
Sophi giggled and nodded, "They're called disco fries. Its a pile of hot greasy diner fries, with brown gravy on top and hot melted soupy mozzarella cheese on top of the gravy."
I chuckled. She gave me a confused look.
"What's so funny?" she asked me.
I shook my head, "I just like your accent and the way you say mozzarella."
She blushed, "Oh, um thanks."
"So why did you come here from New Jersey?" I asked her, taking another sip of my coffee.
The waitress was back and set down a plate of fries in front of Sophi. It looked messy but smelled pretty delicious. She asked me again if I wanted anything to eat and I just shook my head. She walked away after refilling my cup of coffee and Sophi's coke.
