"Mr. Kim, where should we put the files from yesterday's output stock?" A young girl with huge, terrified eyes asked Taehyung, shoving the papers into his hands.

He eyed the girl. One of Cora Agency's  newest interns, no doubt. She'd be gone by the end of the week, that much was obvious. He pushed the files back to her and waved her off as he brushed past her briskly.

"If you want to survive here, you should first learn how to do your job." He said, the corner of his mouth twitching.

When had he become such an ass hole? Was it when his internship ended? Was it when he got promoted to assistant? Promoted to management? Promoted to CEO? He wasn't sure, but his new attitude sure made the interns scared as hell.

As they should be. He thought, marching down the hall. Every girl gawked at him, and, secretly loving the attention he was getting, Taehyung made sure to stare straight ahead, jaw set firm, not giving any of them the slightest bit of notice. He could practically feel them swooning as he left the room, smirking to himself. Women. He silently scoffed.

He stopped once he was outside the chairman's office, the little plaque on the door reading, Mrs. Jeon.

He knocked twice, then heard his boss's melodic voice instructing him to open the door and come inside.

Taehyung did just that, closing the door behind him with a click and striding over to the open chair across from Mrs. Jeon's desk.

"We are selling even better than last year," Taehyung noted, taking the glass of soju his boss offered him. Mrs. Jeon always loved a secret glass of soju while on the job, and Taehyung decided that was probably his favourite thing about working for her.

"I know. I don't know what this company would do without a CEO like you." Mrs. Jeon complimented, pushing her short hair from her face. "But that is not why I called you in here." Mrs. Jeon straightened her back and looked Taehyung in the eye.

"You know, my son recently quit art school, and he's looking for a serious job." Mrs. Jeon mused, taking a swig of her soju and eyeing Taehyung.

Taehyung cleared his throat. "Did he really quit art school, or did you make him?" He teased. He knew his boss hated the fact her son would rather be an artist than take over his mothers spot at the company.

She smiled. "I might have influenced him a little." She started coughing, and quickly grabbed a napkin to wipe her mouth, but not before Taehyung caught a glimpse of the blood that came from her lips.

Taehyung went pale. "Mrs. Jeon. . . are you-" What could he even say to that?

"Dying?" She said firmly, locking eyes with him. "I am."

Taehyung didn't know how to respond, his mouth opening and closing like a fish. Had she been sick for that long? Long enough to know she was dying for sure now? And Taehyung had not noticed at all?

"What. . . how. . . for how long. . .?" Taehyung felt sick to his stomach. Mrs. Jeon had always been the one who looked out for him here, she was even the one who got him the place as CEO in the first place. She practically raised him ever since he started his internship here as a nineteen year old kid six, nearly seven, years ago.

"Two years. It was just a small little liver cancer. Then it spread to my stomach, and now my lungs and my throat. I am so sorry I didn't tell you sooner, Mr. Kim. I know you are like family but... I couldn't. I was protecting my own pride, and I didn't want you to treat me differently. I also knew all the big boys  here in the office would start fighting over who was going to replace me. . ." She blinked hard, as if to fight off tears. Taehyung felt a lump form in his throat, and he choked back a tiny sob. This couldn't be happening.

"I have chosen someone to replace me." She reached across the desk and took Taehyung's hand. It was true, he had always wanted her position, eventually, but not like this.

He would have never asked for this.

"I. . . I have never met someone as smart, and hard working as you, Taehyung. You are a very bright young man, and that is exactly why I am trusting that you will help guide my son as he takes my place after I am gone." She said.

Taehyung's head spun. Wait, her son was getting the position?

"I know you wanted this job, Taehyung, but you have to understand something. Jungkook is my baby, and I am leaving this earth and I just need to know that he has something stable. I need to know he will be ok. This job will confirm that. And I can only hope that you will show the same kindness you have shown to me, to my sweet son." She breathed, squeezing his hand. "Can you do that? Can you guide him?"

Taehyung, eyes stinging, nodded his head. "Yes, ma'am. I promise."

"Thank you." She whispered, tears streaming down her face.

Heartbroken now for two separate reasons, Taehyung felt his own tears spill over. He quickly wiped them away, turning away from Mrs. Jeon in horror.

Am I actually crying?  He thought to himself in disgust. He hadn't cried in years, and now was the worst time to appear weak.

But now he had to keep his promise.
