"This might be the best work I've ever witnessed. You're going to do great things, Jeon." Mr. Han's voice swirled in Jungkook's mind as he watched Taehyung's eyes fill with wonder as he gazed dreamily at Dreamglow."It's so pretty, I wish I could touch it. . .'' Taehyung muttered. Jungkook shifted awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck. They'd already been at the gallery staring at the painting for fifteen minutes, and Jungkook felt like if he looked at it any longer he'd pass out. Taehyung kept mentioning how familiar the work looked, like he'd seen a similar painting before, but couldn't place it. Jungkook kept staring at his signature on the painting of his art alias: J.K. He was sure that Taehyung would have figured it out by now, but was glad that he hadn't. Jungkook had kept the secret of his famous art for a long time now, so long that he'd almost forgotten all about it. He wasn't sure why he was so scared of Taehyung knowing the truth, but he was pretty sure it had to do with the bad memory that came flooding back when he saw the painting. That bad memory being the time when he had to give up his dream of painting in order to take his mothers place at the company. He gave up his dream to carry out hers, because he owed that to her. When he was a kid, she'd done everything to keep Jungkook safe, and she put herself at risk just so the two of them could escape his father. All Jungkook's life, his mother was there for him, everything she ever did was for him. When they first found out just how sick she was, Jungkook told her he'd take care of the legacy she had built for them. And he meant that. No matter how much he missed his life before, art school and a promising future as an artist, making his mother proud and keeping the honour of her legacy alive meant more. Jungkook let out a slow sigh. He had promised Taehyung no more secrets. Here goes. . .
"Tae?"
Taehyung turned quickly, startled by the slightly scared sounding edge in his boyfriends voice. He blinked up at him, turning more in order to face him better. Jungkook's hand was still placed lightly on the small of his back, but Taehyung could feel how it grew cold. What was he so nervous about suddenly? For some stupid and insane reason, Taehyung quickly imagined what it would be like if Jungkook suddenly got down on one knee in front of Taehyung, taking his hand in his. . .
Tae! Get out of your imagination! It's not good to dwell in there over impossible things!
Jungkook swallowed hard, looking even more nervous as he took one step back from Taehyung, fidgeting with his hands.
"I just have a question I've been wanting to ask you, and I think right now is the perfect time to. . ."
Taehyung's heart started pounding violently in his chest. This was it. Oh my God. Ohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygod. Taehyung began to imagine Jungkook pulling out a tiny black Tiffany&Co box, his hand shaking. . .
Taehyung glanced down at his outfit. He'd changed into a simple midnight blue Calvin set of slacks and matching dress shirt at the last minute, pairing it with his Gucci loafers, gold chain, Balenciaga bag and beret that Jungkook had bought him in Paris. Not exactly the all rose petal pink satin Gucci set that I have always envisioned, but this is a good enough fit for an engagement I suppose-
Taehyung kept thinking about alternate outfits he could have worn in order to distract himself from his nerves and racing heart as he waited for Jungkook to ask whatever it was he wanted to ask.
Jungkook suddenly let out a long sigh, looking up to meet Taehyung's eyes. "Do you know why you like my paintings so much?"
Taehyung blinked, confused. And a tad bit disappointed.
Wait, was I really hoping he was planning on. . . proposing? Taehyung! Calm down!
Taehyung shook his head, trying to clear it and think straight. "Sorry. . . why do I like your paintings?" He asked, still confused. "You're really talented and everything you make feels like it belongs to another lifetime or universe." The last painting Jungkook had done was worthy to be in this gallery by any standards. It was a water colour painting of Jungkook's hand placed over Taehyung's as Taehyung pondered something, his fingers against his lips. When Taehyung first found it in their art room, he wanted to sob. His boyfriend truly was the most talented and sweetest person to walk this planet.
