All I wanted to be was normal, but I knew that my life would never be the same. I wasn't your normal teenager anymore that was little miss plain and boring, the one who was picked on by the most popular girl in school. After the incident, I had changed some might say it was a good change but I knew it wasn't. As I had been bitten.
It happened when I was 13, it was my birthday and I begged my parents to take me to their laboratory. My parents were arachnologists, these were scientists who studied spiders and other Arachnids like scorpions. But my parents were one of the worlds leading arachnologists, Dr and Dr Lawson.
My parents had also dealt with mutating new spiders together to create their own, overall they created 5 and the own 5 made up one particular spider that they mutated together. Strength, speed, web spinning, hearing and climbing.

3 years ago"C'mon mom I want to see the spiders!" I said pulling her arm.
We were outside the grand doors which opened to their laboratory my mom was still in her tracks "Be quiet, we are not supposed to allow visitors to come here. If one of my colleagues found out me and your father would get into trouble" She told me.
"Yeah whatever. Just show me the spiders" I whispered.
"They are not any spiders Sierra. They are genetically mutated by us and have extraordinary abilities you cannot disturb them. So let's go over the rules, no tapping on the glass, no holding them and you must stay one foot from the glass. Each of my spiders are worth $1 billion-"
"Yeah yeah, no touching got it. Just let me see them!"
"Please be quiet!" She pleaded.
I huffed "Sorry"
My mother entered in the code to open the doors, they glided open quickly letting in a flush of light. Inside the laboratory it was quiet, the laboratory looked like a laboratory, tables everywhere, chemicals stacked up, microscopes, papers flying everywhere. It was like how I pictured it.
There were pictures of certain spiders posted up on the walls, the mopous mormon, the crab spider, the writing spider and the fishing spider I could have named many more but lost track. I was flooded with colour, each one had it's own unique design. As I strolled past the pictured they became more elaborate, unlike any of the other crab or writing spider.
"Are these the ones you created?" I asked.
"Yes, we have them in here" My mother said pointing to a small door "You are not to disturb them, especially the Aranea"
"Aranea? That's Latin for spider"
She nodded "I know, we had trouble coming for our 6th spider so for now he is called Aranea"
I froze in my tracks, "6th spider? Why wasn't I told?"
"We created him just a few days ago. Oh Sierra! He is our best creation, we took the cells and DNA of each one of our other spiders and combined them together to create this one!" She explained "Aranea will expand our company like never before! You wait soon-"
"Yeah yeah, the whole this spider will help pay for my college tuition and we could move to a big fancy house" I mocked.
Mom huffed and folded her arms, her eyes focusing on the small door. "Everything me and your father are doing is worth it."
I nodded, she entered in the code and then the small doors opened. Inside lied 6 glass boxes, each one was filled with plants and covered in webs. My vision was blurred next to them, I slipped on my square glasses and peered at each one of the spiders. Picking out the colours on each of the spiders. My head followed the glass boxes until I stopped at the sixth box.
"Where's the Aranea?" I asked, pointing to the empty box.
"He's not in there?" Mom worried, she took a deep breath in "I think one of my colleagues was taking him to be tested on"
"Positive?"
She nodded "The Aranea hasn't escaped if that's what your thinking" She told me raising her eyebrows. "I will just go check, you can watch them" After that she dashed off, leaving me alone with 5 spiders each worth 1 billion dollars.
I stroked the glass, it had felt warm and wet. I knew that these were mostly tropical, but these could adapt to any temperature thanks to the genetics of my mothers knowledge. I sat on stool next to them, waiting for my mother to come back.
I placed my hands beside me letting them fall and the blood rushing down through my arms, but then I felt a small brush on my hand. I raised it up slowly before seeing a small black spider with white and a dark blue on it.
"Holy-" I began, before a small bite from the spider pierced through my skin. I screamed, I kept my hand still while the spider continued to hold on. "Help! Mom!" I screamed.
"Im coming!" She shouted.
I closed my eyes, praying for the pain to go away. "Mom, the pain" I whispered to myself.
I felt as if i was shouting, but i knew i was whispering trying to force out the remaining energy i had left. The longer the spider clinged on, the more i lost myself, before a pair of arms grabbed me "Sierra, you can let go. Let your body go, the spider is taking too much blood from you!"She told me.
"Can't....t-too...w-w-weak"
"Aranea is poisoning you! Let go Si"
I listened to her advice, i let my legs go and my body collapse.
And after that my life completely changed.
For the better, and the worse.
