It was an early fall morning. My mother had awakened me for my first day of middle school. I remember looking at the picture of my father I had framed on my wall. I had been telling myself since the day he was killed in action two years ago that I would join the military to make him proud and get vengeance. I got dressed and went downstairs to make some breakfast. My mom packed my favorite lunch: a turkey, ham and cheese sandwich. I got on the bus and went to school. When I got there, I saw the giant sign in front of the school reading "Welcome to Rockford Hills Middle School." Right when I got off of the bus, I was greeted by my best friend Brayden. "Hey Xave" he yelled at me while waving like an idiot. I run over to greet him when I accidentally bump into someone. "I'm sor..." I get up and my face turns bright red. I had bumped into Aubrey, the girl I've liked since 1st grade. "It's ok." I offer her my hand and help her up. "You're Xavier, right?" "Y...yeah" is all I can manage to say. I'm so overjoyed that she knows my name that it's almost impossible not to smile. Somehow I manage to keep a straight face I don't remember how I did. "Well I got to get to class" she says as she flashes a smile. "I'll see you later, ok?" I smile a wide grin and and nod my head. I head over to Brayden and he's laughing hysterically. "And this is how Xavier's love story begins" he barely says because he's laughing so hard. I punch him in the arm and tell him to knock it off. "I'm only kidding, geez" he says stiffly. "Anyway, we better get to class." We walk to class and I notice that Aubrey is in our class. I turn away and smile, trying to hide my smile. The teacher assigns us seats and a first day project. She assigns us partners and I fortunately get to work with Aubrey.
... This is one of my fondest memories. This is the day my friendship with Aubrey began. She helped me through the worst of times and I wouldn't have survived this long if it wasn't for her. This may be the best day of my life that I can recall...
