It was around Christmas my Junior year. It was the year I was finally allowed to sign up for the military. It was a snowy day in mid December when Brayden and I headed to a small town in Northern Pennsylvania where the nearest recruitment office was located. It was around 11 AM when we left for the hour long road trip. We got into my car and pulled out of my driveway. "Are you ready?" I asked. "More ready than I'll ever be in my entire life." he replied. He had the largest smile I'd ever seen on his face. We talked like we were kids again. We talked about being heroes and our return where they'd throw a parade in or honor for how brave we were in action. We talked about the intense battles we'd fight in and the amount of enemy soldiers We'd take out. I turned the radio on and a song that reminded me of my father came on. All of the talk about war and the song began to make me tear up. "Are you okay dude?" I'm fine. I'm just thinking about dad." I paused. "I wish he could be there when our celebration would be thrown." We began to laugh. "Yeah, that'd be pretty cool Xave." We pulled up to the office a few minutes later. We went in and gave our info. We both signed up for the Marines. My father was a Marine, so I followed in his footsteps. Our whole ride home We talked about our first day at boot camp. We were so excited. I couldn't wait to start training. I counted down every day the rest of that year. I think I may still have the calendar I used somewhere.
