Chapter 9

The Last day before being deployed...
I woke up to see everyone I loved and cared for at my house. Aubrey, Brayden, Ella and my Mother were all at the dining room table with a huge breakfast layed out. All I could do was smile. "Good morning sleepy," Brayden said with a smirk. I smiled sleepily. "Shut up. I'm enjoying sleep while I can get it." "I should probably be taking advantage of this time, but I've got to spend the time I have with my brother." I went over a hugged him. "You're the best friend anybody could ever ask for, you know that right Brayden?" He smiled a huge smile. "I wouldn't go that far, but I am pretty great." We laughed and then I looked over at Aubrey. She looked so beautiful. I missed being able to look at that face every day and saying the words I love you to her face. "Good morning princess," I said with a giant smile. "Good morning handsome," she replied. I kissed her and pulled her close to me. "I love you so much Aubrey." "I love you too so much Xave. Ill always love you no matter what." I looked her deeply in the eyes and kissed her again. I sat down to eat and stuffed my face. We had a nice conversation together since this was the first time in my few days back that we could all be together. Ella and I had a conversation about how she's doing in school. She really makes me proud. She told all of her friends about me and how she was so proud of me. It made me feel like a hero before even going to battle. She said I was her role model and she wants to be just like me. After breakfast, Brayden and I decided we'd go for a drive to talk about our time in boot camp. We got into our cars and went for our first drive together in four months. It felt so good to drive with him again. We decided to go to the old dirt road and have a three part race. We decided to break up the road into three parts. The first section want before the drag strip, the 2nd part was the drag strip, and the final part was after the drag strip to the end of the road.
We reached the beginning of the road and set up the stop light. We got back into our cars and prepared to take off. "You ready to eat my dust Xave?," he said smugly. "In your dreams Brayden," I replied. The light turned green and we raced onto the dirt road. He caught me on the first turn and I was never able to catch up. He beat me in the first leg of the race. We went and retrieved the stop light and brought it to the tree. We set it for the usual minute and got ready to take off at green. "1-0 me," he said in a cocky manner. "That cockiness is going to cost you the race," I replied. "We'll see." The light turned green and he had a sloppy start costing him that race. It was tied 1-1 heading into the last leg of the race. We brought the light up to the end of the drag strip. We got ready for the third leg. "Alright you were right Xave," he said with a smile. "Don't think you're going to win easily if you do win. May the best driver win." I never thought I'd ever hear something like that come out of Brayden's mouth. I smiled at this "May the best driver win." The light turned green and he took an early lead. Coming out of turn two he had an entire car on me. I took run three perfectly and slammed the gas out of the turn and caught up to him. There was a series of turns ahead. I managed to drift almost all of them perfectly. I want in it to win it. After the that section of the road there was one more turn to talk before a half mile stretch to end the road. I took the turn a bit too hard, allowing Brayden to catch up. We were neck and neck until the finish and we tied. We both got out and shook hands and hugged. "Damn good driving," I said to him. "Right back at you."
We drove home around noon so I could spend the rest of the day with Aubrey. We spent the day at the park walking and catching up. I smiled the entire time. I loved spending time like this with her. It was perfect. Around 9, we went to the beach to watch the stars. "You know, I missed this the most when I was away." "Really?," she said suprised. "Mhm. These nights with you are perfect. I get to look at the amazing night sky with my beautiful princess and talk all night." She crawled over on top of me and kissed me. "I love to spend these nights with you too," she said as she ran a finger down my chest. "I think I'm going to love this night a lot." I kissed her deeply and things began to escalate. We ended up making love that night. I drove her back to our apartment that my mother helped her to rent while I was at boot camp and we said goodbye one last time, possibly the last time ever. "I love you so much. You are the love of my life and I'll miss you so much. Stay strong for me and remember I'm always in your heart." She smiled at me, although I could tell she was sad when I stared into her eyes. I moved her hair away from her face and kissed her one last time. "I love you so much." She stared up at me "I love you too." I drove home and went to sleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. I'd be gone first thing in the morning...
That whole day was such a memorable one. I got to see everyone I love and spend time with them. I was also in for a huge suprise a week later...
