It was a beautiful summer day. I woke up early to a huge breakfast made by my mother. Today was my last day home. I'd be off to boot camp tomorrow at 8 AM sharp. I ate slowly and savored the food because this was surely going to be my last homemade breakfast before I come home in 4 months. After I finished eating, I heard a knock on the door. I knew exactly who it was. As soon as I opened the door Aubrey jumped towards me and wrapped her arms around me "Good morning" I barely managed because of how tightly she was hugging me. "I'm going to miss you so much." "I'm going to miss you too." I could feel her start to shake and here her begin to cry. I lifted up her chin and stared into her eyes. "I love you so much. I know this is going to be hard you and it's going to be very, very hard for me, but I want you to promise me something. Promise me you'll stay strong and keep in contact." "I only get to see you for a few days when you get back." She was cry very badly. "Those few days may be the last I ever get to see you. You don't know how hard is is knowing that the one you love is going off and risking his life each and everyday. It break my heart." I looked her in the eyes deeply. "Here." I gave her my most prized possession; the keys to my car. It wasn't just any old junk car; it was my baby. It was a 98' Toyota Supra. Jet black with red rims. 3.0 6 cylinder engine with a 5 speed transmission. Over 400 hp, a 0-60 time under 4 seconds, and a max speed of around 170 this car has been my dream for the longest time. I made some modifications and tweaked it to these settings of course. "This is my most prized possession, but you're more important than it. I'd trade that car away in a heartbeat for you. I trust you with my keys and my car. If I dont make it back, she's yours." I smiled. "You aren't going to get it easily. Now lets go for a drive." She smirked "The only way Ill go on a drive with you is if you don't drive like a grandma this time." "Oh I won't, I promise." We went and got into my car and drove off. We were reminiscing about old times. Late nights catching fireflies, having bonfires, and star gazing. Warm summer days playing in the field and swimming in the river. Watching sunsets and listening to music in the evening. We drove around all day. I had to gas up a around 3. We stopped and had lunch at a local resturaunt. After we got done eating, we went to the field that we made fond childhood memories in. I pulled a blanket put of my truck and layed it down for us to sit on. We sat down and watched the sunset. "It's truly beautiful," I said while staring at the purple red sky. "It really is," she replied. "I wish I could do this for the rest of my life." "Do what?," she asked. "Watch the beautiful sunset with my beautiful girlfriend and watch the sunset." She blushed and looked over at me. "I love you so much Xave." I love you so much too Aubrey." We stayed there for a little while and watched the stars. It was such a beautiful night to watch the stars and I got to spend it with the most perfect girl in the world. When we were done, I packed up the blanket and drove her home and walked her to her door. "I'm going to miss you so much," she said as she hugged me tightly. "I'm going to miss you too. Remember to stay strong and keep in touch." She looked at me with tear filled eyes. "I won't, I promise." I kissed her one last time. I never wanted to let go. "Goodbye, Aubrey" I managed a smile, but began to tear up. "Goodbye, Xave" Her face was streaked with tears. I got in the car and drove home...
Saying goodbye that night was one of the hardest things i had ever done. I had to wait a whole four month to see her again, but I was still excited for what was going to happen tomorrow...
