I love her. My eyes widen and I look away. Do I love her? I can't love her, I've only known her for like four days. Mateo picks up his sister gently and takes her over to Mamma, Tia and Gabriela. They examine her leg and Tia pours something on it. I lay on the ground and hold my stomach. Tia walks past me to her daughter and Gabiela goes to Mateo and hugs him. Mamma is hugging Y/n and she's crying. My stomach turns, is she upset about me? Pa sits next to me
"What's on your mind Mijo?" I groan and cover my face. "Worried about Y/n?"
"Yeah" I mumble and Pa chuckles
"You two remind me of your Mamma and I" I uncover my face
"Hm?"
"Yeah, you two have that banter, flirty but mostly friendly. Who knows that friendship may blossom into love. It did for you're Mamma and I" Pa says and I look at Y/n, Mammas telling her something and she's nodding. I sigh and Pa touches my shoulder. Antonio runs up to her and she hugs him
"She is special" Pa says and I nod
"She is, isn't she?" I smile and Tia runs around
"Mirabel!" She yells
"Mirabel!" Y/n calls and walks away.
"Go" Pa says and I run after Y/n. She spins and sighs. She still has dirt on her face
"Come on" I say, grabbing her hand and leading her to the river. I sit her down on the grass and I wet my sleeve. I wipe her cheek, careful to avoid any scratches, she has one on her cheek bone. "Thank you" She says quietly and I feel myself smile
"Does your cut hurt?" she shakes her head
"Liar" She chuckles
"I am not"
"Yes, your leg does hurt" I say and she smiles, rolling her eyes.
"I've has worse"
"What?" She tilts her head at me
"Mhm, see" she says and lifts up her shirt, there's a long cut along her ribs, she lifts up her skirt and shows me the bite mark above her knee. I touch it, her skin is cold.
"Does it hurt?"
"No, they're just scars and remind me to never approach jaguars" she laughs, I smile at her and I tuck a piece of her hair behind her ear. I snake my arm around her waist and she leans on me. "We should go back" I say and help her up. She takes my hand and we walk back. Mirabel attacks her in a hug and they talk. I go over to Mateo and he laughs
"She gives me a heart attack all the time" He says and I scoff
"Do you ever get used to it?"
"Never" He says and puts an arm over my shoulders.
