"9 years, huh," I said.

I didn't realize that it's been 9 years, we've been together for a short period. 3 months if I need to guess. I was still 19 during that time and Shenela entered college when she was still 18.

I'm turning 29 this coming June 25th and Shenela always teased me about getting to that age and I fired back at her teasing her getting on 28 years old. Hell, I didn't realize my age, but that doesn't matter to me, I wasn't ready ever since Warden and I broke up.

"How old are you?" I asked Warden but he was refusing to answer my question.

"How about I ask how are you?" Warden said and I chuckled. "I'm good, I guess." He grab my dessert on the door since someone knocked, it was a blueberry cheesecake.

"Yum!" I said while waiting for him to put it on the table. "Why 'I guess,' dream?" he also prepared me water.

"Well, I focused on education throughout med school, graduating at the age of 21, passing the pharmacy license exam, then going to med school and passing the physician licensure exam." I paused to take a mouthful of the cake and sighed because it was so delicious. "Don't moan, dream."

Warden opened his lips and said, "That's not even good." I rolled my eyes at him as I placed a cake on the fork and fed it to him. "You know, when I told you that I passed all of the examinations, I made it sound so simple, but believe me when I say that I wept every day."

"I know it's tough," he says as he places his hand on my cheek, and I lean closer.

I murmured, "I'm sorry," and he ran his fingertip across my left cheek. I turn away from him because I can feel tears welling up in my eyes. "Do you want to know what happened that night?"

"Just tell me when you're ready to tell me," he said, taking my hand in his. I gave him another cake, which he devoured. "I thought you said it wasn't good, huh?" I said, to which he answered, "It isn't good, but the way you feel about me is."

"How do you think I feel about you?" I ask. He flashed me a teasing grin and smeared something on his lips with his thumb, which he then licked. "Don't challenge me, woman."

I chuckle, and he laughs as well, most likely because I have a funny laugh. I grab his hand and placed it to my face, "I want to tell you about that night, Warden."

"I'm all ears, dream," he muttered, placing both hands on my face and placing his forehead on mine.

"That night, I was at your house because I was angry with my mom. When you dropped me home that night she was already packing our things so we could escape to father." I paused and took a deep breath. "He threatened my mother by taking me with him, and I understand how hard was that for my mom but I couldn't comprehend why... why we had to go." He tightens his grip to mine to assure me that he's with me.

"Warden, I was so afraid," I said, tears streaming down my face, which he wiped away before pulling me into an embrace and whispering, "It's okay."
