Thirty two

"Jungwon! What are you doing here?" Jihyo asked as she ran up to him.

"I was checking up on the cactus I planted."

"Ohh"

"What about you?" Jungwon stood up and asked the girl.

"Uh I was just going to take a walk."

There was a moment of silence until the both of them spoke up.

"Wanna grab some ice cream?"
"There's something I need to-"

They stared at each other and laughed.

"Sure, let's go grab some ice cream" Jihyo said and they started walking towards the ice cream shop.

They bought their ice creams and walked back to the park. They ate their ice creams as they sat on the swings and talked.

"Hmm what's your MBTI?" Jungwon asked.

"I'm not sure...It started with E..N something"

"Ohhh"

"What about yours?" Jihyo said while turning towards him.

"Hmm guess" Jungwon said while showing his dimples.

"Uhh" Jihyo said while turning forward again because she got flustered.

After composing herself, she said with a slight smile, "I don't know much about MBTI.."

"Yeah?"

"But I think yours is C-U-T-E" Jihyo said before turning towards Jungwon and bursting out laughing.

Jungwon also burst out laughing.

"Oh you're wearing the bracelet I gave on your birthday" Jihyo said happily.

"Yeah. It's really nice. Hey I never saw you wear the necklace I gave you on your birthday. It was my birthday present to you. But I guess you would be in an awkward position if you wore the necklace I gave you after what happened"

"Huh?" Jihyo was trying to recall if Jungwon gave any necklace to her when he spoke up again.

"Jihyo"

"Yeah?"

"I don't think I've told you but I'm really happy I didn't lose you"

"What do you mean?" Jihyo laughed.

"I mean after what happened at the retreat"

"What happened?" Jihyo asked genuinely confused. 'Did I fight with him at the retreat?' She thought to herself.

"After what happened, I couldn't face you anymore and after ignoring you for so long, I gave up on talking to you."

"Huh?"

"But I'm happy you don't feel awkward or anything like that."

"What do you mean?"

"Don't you remember?During the retreat, in the storage room-" Jungwon stopped mid sentence because his ice cream fell on his shoe. He took out wet wipes from his bag and started cleaning his shoe.

'What does he mean storage room? The only time I went to the storage room was when Sunghoon called me and all that happened. Wait? Did he ignore me because of Sunghoon? Wah such a loyal friend. But he seemed more hurt than Sunghoon himself. Huh?' Jihyo thought to herself.

Once Jungwon finished cleaning Jihyo finally decided to confess. She took a deep breath and was about to speak up but Jungwon beat her to it. He sighed and said, "After what happened, I tried my best and right now I don't have feelings for you anymore...I think...so I hope we stay friends for a long time" Jungwon smiled at Jihyo.

Jihyo felt as if her world started crumbling with that one sentence. "Huh?" Was the only word that could come out of her mouth. 'Did he stop having feelings for me because of what happened between Sunghoon and me? What? Did I seem like a horrible human when I rejected Sunghoon?' she thought.

Before she could say anything Jungwon got a call. Yelling from a classmate of his from the taekwondo team could be heard. Jungwon quickly cut the call.

"I completely forgot that I have taekwondo practice. I'm so sorry Jihyo" Jungwon said with guilt.

"Noo it's ok." she said with a bittersweet smile.

She watched as Jungwon ran away into the distance.

She sighed and sat down on the swing again. As she stared at the sky to hold in her tears she said "Ah I got rejected even before I confessed" Jihyo laughed forcefully as she picked up her bag and made her way to her favourite cafe.

"I'm back after a while" Jihyo said as she opened the door and sat down in the seat she always sat.

She ordered two slices of cake and her favourite mint chocolate latte.

She ate as Jungwon's sentence repeated in her head over and over again. Sunghoon saw Jihyo eating blankly from the window and came inside to sit in front of her.

Jihyo didn't realise Sunghoon was in front of her until he started eating the other slice of cake.

"Hey that's my cake-" Jihyo looked up irritated to make eye contact with Sunghoon. "I'll have some" he said while taking it away from her.

As he ate the cake, he asked, "So what's made you upset that you're here drinking that disgusting mint choco drink again?" He pointed at the mint choco latte with his fork

Jihyo didn't speak up for some time but soon said "I should take tips from you"

"Sure, I'm ready to give you tips on everything. But I can't give you any tips on how to become more good looking, that depends on your genes and you can't chang anything but of course you're already pretty so you don't need any tips but Sunoo says that drinking water can help tons with skin-" Sunghoon was cut off by Jihyo.

"I need tips on how to not act awkward after getting rejected"

Sunghoon started choking on his cake. Jihyo poured hin a glass of water as she talked. "In normal situations, I would never be asking you anything like this after what happened but since we're still such good friends I feel we're comfortable enough for the conversation right?"

Sunghoon now choked even more.

"Plus you're completely over me also. I'm glad we stayed such good friends but now that I think about it I'm a little just a little hurt I was so easy to get over" Jihyo laughed.

"Wait wait rewind. Why in the world would I give you advice on how not to be awkward after getting rejected? When did I get over you??" Sunghoon asked after drinking the whole cup of water.

"At the retreat you called me to the storage room and confessed. Don't you remember? Yah! Was I THAT easy to get over that you don't even remember it happened?"

"I did call you to the storage room but you never came, what do you mean???" Sunghoon asked confused.

"What? The last day of the retreat, on my birthday, you confessed to me" Jihyo said also confused.

"What? You didn't come to the storage room that day so I got angry at you and made sure not to talk to you the entire night."

"What? Hey don't joke around Sunghoon in the store room with the necklace and all that you-" This was when Jihyo finally realized everything. Jungwon was the one who confessed in the storage room. Jungwon was the one she rejected and that was why he didn't talk to her for so long. Jungwon was the one who was acting normal after what happened. She had rejected the guy she liked and now he was over her.
