The few weeks brought nothing but fear. Multiple tests had gone by, multiple shots, multiple days of misery. Loralie and Theodore grew closer, almost inseparable. Through the pain and the unexpected tomorrow, they were like childhood friends. No day was like the other, something new everyday. Her body felt weak from the injections, walking and waiting. She didn’t know what time it was, but her whole body ached. “hey, loralie?” Theodore asked, concerned. “eh? What’s up?” she suddenly sat up. They had been silent for a while, both plotting to escape sometime soon. “correct me if I am wrong, but by any chance do you like me in any way?” She was taken aback by Theodores question. Like? As in.. like? Or like like? She really did love him, he was sweet and charming. Loralie knew he was in some way different from other men she had met. She stood and stared for a second or two. She had finally gathered the courage to answer him. “I do really like you, Theodore.” She sputtered out. His eyes lit up, excited. “I was sure you only thought of me as a close friend of sorts, I’m still shocked you share feelings with me” he smiled. Her stomach turned with excitement. Did he really like her the way she liked him? He was honest and kind. Almost like an old dream. Although it was a sudden question, she accepted it. They had only known each other for what seemed like a month or two, and they had already grown close. She trusted him, and she could tell he trusted her too. But it still felt odd to find someone that caring in such a dangerous place. None of that mattered when Theodore jumped up and hugged Loralie for the first time. Her head spun, almost fainting. Theodore was full of surprises today, huh? She laughed and hugged him back. Just then, the door flew open. Dr. Senka walked in as usual, clipboard in hand. She looked up and stopped in her tracks. “alright lovebirds I need only one of you today.” She remarked jokingly after a slight moment of silence. Theodore scrambled off of Loralie, ashamed. She motioned for loralie to follow her, and eyed Theodore on the way out. “so, do you like him?” she teased as they walked down the hallway. “ah, is that your business, doctor?” she snapped, embarrassed of herself. “love is funny, loralie. Don’t get too comfortable with me either, I’m not here to make friends.” Dr. Senka’s expression darkened. Loralie apologized quickly, as they wandered into the dim hall.
