“Morning love” Theodore smiled sweetly at loralie, who was just waking up from her nap. “eh? Ah, good morning Theodore. Did I miss anything?” she asked, her eyes not fully open yet. “Nothing too much, just a small announcement is all.” He laughed. Announcement? For what? “what did they say this time?” she annoyingly asked. Honestly, What could be so important that you had to announce it now of all times? Didn’t they clear everything already? Loralie stretched, still longing to see the sun. What did it feel like again? Was it warm? It had been so long without fresh air in her lungs and cool winds against her skin. “they told everyone that today is the day, dear loralie.” His English accent made everything feel okay, although it was soon disrupted by what felt like a bullet through her heart. Today.. the day? “the day they test the gas. If it’s safe, then everything will go as planned. If not, then we will have to evacuate.” He said in a low, sad voice. They all knew this day would come soon, but not this soon. How could they? Where would we go? Again, thoughts took over her mind like a spreading virus. She immediately stood up, nearly awake. Just then, the long screeching sound rang through the room, followed by the dreaded announcement. “10 minute warning” a low voice rang out. It didn’t sound human, more like a pre recorded message at that. Alright, 10 minutes to form some sort of plan, loralie thought. “This is our one chance, if this isn’t it than I don’t know what is” she remarked to Theodore. “alright then my lady, tell me what to do.” He smiled. Loralie quickly drew a breath, but as soon as she began to speak, the announcement sounded once more. “5 minutes” the words stung her heart. There wasn’t nearly enough time. “what if.. we just did as they said? This could be a trap, we don’t know what they’re up to Theodore.” She concluded. It could be a possibility and she didn’t want to take the chance. The doctors just wanted to weed out the weak and see who is loyal. Her heart sank as she remembered Dr. Senka’s face. “10,9,8,7,6” what?
