"Des! I'm home!"
Closing the front door with my back I kicked off my shoes while carrying a Qdoba filled bag in one hand and several movie options in the other.
"Des?"
"In here." Her tired voice called out weakly.
Breathing out a sigh of relief, I followed the sound of her voice to the living room where she was balled up in the corner of the couch, covered by the duvet from our bed.
Taking a deep breath I forced a smile.
"Guess what I brought?"
"Please tell me it's not food." She mumbled, "I'm not hungry."
My smile faltered.
"Did you eat today."
"I'm not hungry."
Sighing I crossed the room and sat down on the couch beside her.
"I got your favorite." I said softly, "Veggie burrito, light on the black beans, heavy on the guac and pico.....I even stopped at got that expensive hot sauce you like to put on it."
Reaching into the small grocery store bag I'd tucked in the Qdoba bag I held up a bottle of Cholula hot sauce.
Lowering the blanket slightly she glanced over at me.
"Did you get chips?"
"Did I get chips?" I scoffed, "That's like if I got you light raspberry lemonade, with ice, but not too much so it doesn't make your teeth cold."
"How did you remember all this?" she asked, sitting up slightly.
Pleased with the slight progress I was making I smiled, "You're my wife. I know everything about you?"
"Everything?"
"Everything."
Looking at my skeptically, she accepted the burrito I handed to her.
"I know," I said slowly, "that you sleep with your mouth open and snore, loud. I know that your favorite Disney movie is the Aristocats. I know that your favorite musical is Sweeny Todd but you've never seen the movie because just thinking about the throat slitting scenes freaks you out. I know that you had crowds but you go to award shows with me because you know that I hate the idea of going without you. I know that you're a great wife and a great mom and I know that you're hurt and that hurts me."
A tear rolling down her cheek Destiny looked down. Sighing, I reached out and wiped the droplet of water away.
"And I know that I would.. will do anything for you to be happy. Name it, we'll do it."
"I just want to be with you." She whispered, "I don't want to lose anyone else."
"You won't." I assured her, draping an arm around her and pulling her into my side, "I promise."
Kissing the top of her I smiled as she relaxed into me.
"Ashton," she mumbled.
"Yeah?" I questioned.
"I know the kids aren't here." She sighed, "And I know we haven't...you know...in a while but I'm just...I can'...."
"Destiny!" I interrupted, "No. No, no, no. I don't want that okay? Not tonight."
Breathing out a sigh of relief, she smiled and nodded.
And that pretty much sums I'm my night. Cuddling, movies and Qdoba....No sex.... Little did I know, four miles away, three neighborhoods over, two people were going at it.
