Since his first memory, he always experienced the ocean.

He stood at the beach, staring out over the vast sea.

But he did not appreciate the beautiful blue waters. He did not like how the sun's rays made the sea glimmer like gold.

All he could see was the size of the ocean. The way it stretched out before him. An endless abyss, with no bottom. Full of cruel, vicious creatures and trash.

He stood on the beach, the sand warm under his toes.

And the waters lapped at his feet. They threatened him, but only just barely.

We are not strong now, the water said, but the tide is always moving.

We will grab you, the waves taunted as they tickled his toes. And we will carry you out and drag you down. You will drown in our midst.

I know, he told the sea. I'm not strong enough to resist you or swim against your might. I know.

And don't ever forget it, the ocean told him, pulling back. We will always be back. You are weak, and one day you will be ours.

I know.
