"Time well spent with children is never wasted."
"Are you guys excited?" Maureen asked as she beamed a smile, looking over at the three kids seated at the back while she sat on the passenger sea next to Dave.
They were on their way to the mall once again, and this time, to shop for the kids.
It was a big surprise for Maureen when Tobias called her to his office and explained that he had made the decision to enroll the kids to a private school instead of being home schooled. When she signed the employment contract, she was sure that all five kids were to stay at home while they learn.
It was a big step for Mr. Lawson, as this would be the first time that both Hayes and Harper will face a big change. They were used to only studying at home.
But at the same time, it was good.
New people, new environment, new experiences.
The kids needed it.
A month from now and it would be the first day of school. Hayes and Harper are going to be first graders, and Charee in kindergarten.
Their father had told them the news just yesterday, and the twins were still wary, not knowing what to say or do.
But inside, there was a teeny-tiny spark of excitement for the two.
"Yes!" Charee cheered loudly as she jumped up and down in her seat. Out of the three, she was of course the most hyped.
Minutes later and they were on the department store, with different clothes and shoes and other things that they needed displayed in front of them.
"Okay..." Maureen started, bending down slightly to level her eyesight with the kids. "It's time for shopping! We'll get your school clothes first, your shoes, and then the things you need for school. Is that okay?"
Harper nodded quietly while Hayes and Charee replied with a yes.
Walking hand in hand with Chare, Maureen let the twins walk in front of them and go where they wanted to first.
The first stop was the boys' clothes section, and Harper and Charee waited patiently as Hayes made his pick.
"Is this one okay?" he would ask Maureen, asking for her opinion on his choice of pants and shirt as he held it up, looking genuinely curious if she liked what he picked or not.
Maureen knew that whatever he picked would look good on him. He was such a handsome little boy.
With a nod and a smile, she would agree with whatever he picked. Sometimes choosing between a green or yellow shirt, and sometimes a red or black jacket.
"This one or this one?" Hayes asked with a smile, holding up a long-sleeved button up shirt. It was between white and a patterned shirt, holding it both up to let them see.
He was so happy and excited about picking that he didn't know which was best.
"Hmm..." Maureen hummed, pretending to think as she looked at Harper beside her. "What do you think?"
Harper looked at her for a moment before contemplating between the two colors, deciding which was best.
"The white one." she answered, pointing to the white shirt with some sky blue prints.
White was a good color on her brother.
After a few minutes, Maureen started to notice that Hayes was reluctant to place all his clothes by the basket, looking at the prices before picking which should go or not.
