"I take the blame for all the pain and sadness you encountered. But I also take the responsibility of caring for you after all that. I'm here."
"It's not your fault, honey." her mother reminded her as they sat on the kitchen counter. Lily had prepared some snacks for the children while they waited for their father.
Maureen had notified Tobias of the situation, told him where they were and was now coming to come pick them up. Maureen prepared herself for whatever was going to happen once he reached their house.
She shook her head as she stared at the marble counter, remembering what had happened just an hour earlier. It was her fault.
"I made a stupid decision and the kids got hurt. It is my fault, mom. I put them in danger. I should've known better." she muttered, rubbing her face with her hands in disappointment. "I should have, ma. I'm better than this. I've been doing this a long time and I-I should've known."
Lily sighed, hating how her daughter was putting herself down. It wasn't her fault at all. It was those people who didn't respect their privacy and space. Maureen shouldn't have to deal with what they caused.
They heard the door open, and Maureen was expecting it to be her father letting Tobias inside, but turns out it was her brother.
"Finn." she mumbled, smiling at her brother as much as she could.
Before he could greet her back, the noise from the living room distracted him. With wide eyes, he gazed at the three little kids on their house.
"Wha-?" confused, he turned to his sister. They were obviously the one's she was taking care of. What he was concerned about was why they were here.
"It's a long story." his father said, patting his back as he told him to introduce himself to the kids.
"Uh- hi." he greeted, setting down his bag by the sofa and waving at the three. They were the older twins and the second daughter, he realized.
Charee waved back giddily, but then went back to the TV screen as one of her favorite movies, Princess and the Frog, played.
Hayes looked at the man who entered the room, like a boy version of Maui as they looked similar. With a small smile, he and Harper greeted Maureen's brother.
They stayed quiet for a few minutes as the movie ended, and then they were back to chatting and giggling.
"What's that?" Charee asked curiously, and loudly, as she pointed towards the device that was on Finn's ears.
"Charee." Harper scolded, pulling her sister close and attempting to cover her mouth. Finnegan chuckled.
"That's okay." he said as Harper looked at him and removed her hand from her sister's mouth. "It's a hearing aid. It helps me hear more clearly."
"Oh..." Charee nodded, as if understanding, but then her attention was shifted to another thing as Mr. Isaiah, Maui's dad, sat on one of the couches. Charee stood up and neared him, settling herself in his lap as they talked about her favorite toys.
Charee was fond of their parents, Finn took notice.
"Are you okay?" Finn asked the twins, noticing their silence. He noted the bruises and bandages on Harper's nose and knee, and it was as if he got a slight idea on what happened and why they were here.
Hayes looked over at Harper before answering. "Yeah."
Finnegan smiled at them gently, then patted both their heads before standing up and getting to the door as someone knocked. Seeing as how his dad was busy with Charee, he took it to himself to greet the person behind the door.
