"It was instinct. My hands reached for you before I could even think. And that's when I knew... you had a tight hold on me."
"It'll be fine." Maureen told Tobias, who reluctantly sighed at the other side of the call. He wanted someone with them to the dentist, but she assured him that it's okay. "We'll be done before you know it."
It was moments before he answered with an 'okay', telling her to call him immediately if ever something happens, or even if she only wanted to.
Maureen smiled as she ended the call, turning to the three kids who were coming with her to the dentist.
She laughed as the three showed her their frown, especially Charee's.
"Do we really need to go?" she groaned, dragging her feet as she walked towards the door and to Maui's car.
Maureen smiled before she answered her. "Yes, honey. We need to have your teeth checked for cavities, especially since you ate so many sweets these past few weeks."
"And the same goes for you two." she teased, turning to the twins who were settling on their seat. The two avoided her eyes, looking outside the car window and focusing on anything else but her.
She chuckled before walking over to the driver's seat, making sure that they were all strapped in and buckled.
"We'll be back!" she said goodbye to Mrs. Helen, who waved her goodbye by the door. The babies were sleeping in their room still, and it was a peaceful morning.
"Are we gonna have ice cream after?" Charee asked from her car seat, peaking over to Maureen through the seat. Hayes and Harper also looked over at her with wonder.
"Hmm..." she pretended to think, eyes teasing the three expecting kids as she focused on the drive. The clinic was only a few minutes away, and their dentist was such a friendly doctor that it was a swift transaction whenever they had their check up.
Except when it comes to getting their tooth out.
"Maybe." she shrugged, not giving a definite answer although she was already planning to give them ice cream afterwards. They needed to buy a few things from the store, and they'd get to that right after the dentist appointment.
The rest of the drive was full of chatter and singing, as Charee and Hayes sang a duet of their favorite songs as Harper nodded along.
Maureen found herself looking over at them through the rear view mirror every now and then, with a smile on her face.
"Good morning." Maureen greeted the doctor, and they chatted for a while as they entered the clinic while the three kids remained behaved and quiet by the waiting area. Although Maureen was quite sure that she could hear some groans coming from them here and there.
"Okay, ready?" the dentist asked the first patient out of the three, Hayes. He looked over at Maureen reluctantly as she stayed on the side, gazing.
Maureen nodded towards him in assurance.
The twins' check up went smoothly, but when Charee's turn came, everything took a turn.
"We'll have to remove this tooth right here." the dentist says.
Maureen's eyes widened, at the same time that Charee's did, and with panic the little girl shook her head. She brushed her teeth three times a day and made sure to drink water right after dessert, why did she have to get her tooth out?
"Nuh-uh." she answered, mouth still open in an 'ahh' motion as the dentist held her tool towards her mouth. Maureen looked over at the dentist, sighed, and then nodded.
