Edited version:

It had been 13 years since I retried from the Anbu. I was now 27 years old and lived just outside the village. That one night walking home got me thinking, looking at all the family's out living their best life put things into perspective for me. I was so young and needed my space to grow up and figure myself out instead of wasting my years killing people and doing something a 14 year old shouldn't have to do. Before retiring, I had a talk with Hiruzen about my situation and he understood my frustration. He allowed me to live outside the walls of Konoha and gave me permission to enter the gates as I pleased. Though I rarely went inside those boarders, I felt no need to rely on Konoha.

I was alone for most of the time. Occasionally there would be visitors knocking on my door asking for directions to near by villages and newspaper deliveries. When I turned 20 I decided to get a dog to keep me company, as I was desperately craving it.

I was laying down on my window seat and heard a knock on the front door from my bedroom. I wonder who that could be? I walked to the front door with my dog Mono on my side, incase I was in need of extra protection. I opened the door and stared in shock.

"G-Genma." I stuttered mouth wide open.

"Y/n, it's been awhile." He gave a small smile trying to keep his act 'cool'. My mouth closed and I returned the smile.

"The Hokage wanted someone to deliver this to you." He handed me a scroll. I scanned it quickly and nodded. "Thank you Genma." I smiled.

"See ya around." He turned around and left my front porch in a hurry. I backed away from the door and shut it behind me. I haven't seen him in 13 years. In fact I haven't seen any of my old friends since I was a young teenager. He's definitely grown into a man, but he's kept the whole "Too cool" act up that's for sure. I opened the scroll and sat down at my dinning room table. I scanned the text sighing at it's contents.

"What am I gonna do Mono? I sighed again and threw the scroll in my garbage. Hiruzen you son of a bitch. Why now? you ask me now to return to the village and resume me roll as a kunoichi. You're crazy if you think I'm going to return, but there must be a damn good reason if he's asking me personally to return. I reluctantly decided to go back into the village.

When I arrived back in the village there was a bunch of new faces I didn't recognize. By new faces I mean younger children I never met. Before walking into Hiruzen's office I took a deep breath preparing myself for the confrontation coming. No Way....The Hokage is a woman now?

"Nice to meet you y/n, I'm Tsunade and I realized I should've informed you sooner that I've become the 5th Hokage. My apologizes."

"Nice to meet you Lady Tsunade." I bowed and smiled. "Not to be rude, but what happened to Lord 3rd?

"He had been killed in a fight between him and his former student Orochimaru." The lady Hokage informed me.

"Oh, right." I wasn't super close with Lord 3rd, but that was Asuma's father. I hope he's doing okay with his dad's death.

"I was told you left 13 years ago and haven't returned since? She questioned me.

"Yes, I left when I was 14 after coming to my senses and realizing the Anbu wasn't a good place for a young child like me to develop in." I explained.

"I understand completely, but you know why you're here and I hate to ask you in such circumstances."

"I read over the scroll and understand. I'll return to the village." I spoke plainly. I cannot hide forever, I have to return at some point in my life it's now or never I guess.
