CH 18: Patrol

It's Friday. Most kids are excited to get out and party all weekend until school starts on Monday, but for the Batfamily, it means long patrols all weekend.

Dick promised to visit from Blüdhaven this weekend, so they'd be a little more bearable.

I was excited though, because I'd be able to field test my new suit. The new suit wasn't as suffocating as my old one. Recluse's suit held the weight of San Francisco, the weight of the world on her shoulders. Dark Web's was a little more care free.

Especially when it came to her and her brother's shenanigans.

We're on the top of Wayne Tower, waiting instructions from Batman, when Dick mocks him in a low voice. "I'm Batman, I work alone."

Tim adds, "Except for Nightwing. And Dark Web. And Red Robin. And Robin. And Oracle. And Agent A. And Batgirl."

"And the whole Justice League!" I laugh, adding on even more.

"Batman does not sound like that." Robin is quick to defend his father's honor.

Dick continues, "I am vengeance. I am the night. I am-"

"Right behind you."

Dick bristled, "Hey B, what's up?"

"Nightwing, now's not the time to mess around. You can do that after patrol."

He saluted, "Yes Batman."

"Nightwing and Robin, take the West side of Gotham. Red Robin and Dark Web, you take the East Side. I'll take the middle, and coast through the streets in the Batmobile."

"What about your partner Batman? Where's Catwoman?" Tim asks, trying not to laugh.

"The burglar?" I ask, confused.

"Not helping Red Robin." Batman practically growled.

Red Robin whispers into my ear, "They have a thing for each other."

I giggle.

"Are we done now?" Robin asks, patrol is his favorite thing in the world, and heaven forbid we ruin or interrupt his precious time.

"Yes." Batman says, and hops down into the alley below, ground zero.

I wave Nightwing and Robin goodbye, however, I only get acknowledgment from one.

I grab Red Robin's arm, saying, "Come on, slowpoke."

At first, we're racing across the rooftops, keeping a good pace throughout the city. But our patrols become lazy, as I start swinging as Red Robin jogs across the rooftops, using a grappling hook when needed.

Depleted of energy only a few hours in, we decide to get energy drinks, duh.

We haven't run into any trouble on the wealthy side of town, but Oracle promises me that the other boys are getting some fighting and action tonight.

Lucky.

We rest on top of a building, looking down at the city below. It's getting warmer, it's already past Dick's birthday, and we're getting closer and closer to spring break.

Tim and I have gotten closer ever since he tagged along on my mini trip, but sometimes Tim lacks boundaries.

I am totally knocked off guard when he asks me between sips, "Who's your secret lover boy?"

"What are you talking about?" I feign innocence.

"Don't act like I'm stupid Vivi."

"Hey! No names in the field." I slap his arm.
