The ex-assassin and his father and I exit the building, and I notice that we were in the basement of STAR Labs all along.
A single word hasn't been spoken, I'm too afraid to shatter the silence. I can't tell if a storm was brewing behind Batman's mask, he's too good at hiding his emotions. Damian was as well.
We go to the side of the building, where Damian step into a built in tube like structure, and he disappears after a flash of light. Bruce doesn't say a word, he simply looks at me, expecting me to do the same. So I follow Damian's example, and I step in.
The journey is instantaneous, like my atoms are being scanned and printed, and it feels warm. When it stops, I step out of the boom tube, something I'm impressed by because these don't exist in my universe. Of course we have hoverboards, flying cars, and teleportation, but I still think it's cool.
Except the feeling drowns away when I step out into a cave, surrounded by superheroes from all across the country.
From Aqualad, Lagoon Boy, Kid Flash, Blue Beetle, Rocket, Superboy, and Miss Martian, you name the young hero and they were there.
Which meant that my luck just ran out.
A female robotic voice rings out across the cavern. "B33: Guest. Confirmation: A:01 Batman."
A person I recognize as Beast Boy yells, "Intruder!"
The entire force goes into a defensive mode, as they try to identify and assess the new person who just entered the cave.
Blue Beetle turns and immediately shoots two blue staples at me, trapping my left wrist and my right arm to stick me to the wall, like you would do a butterfly or beetle or some other sort of bug.
"What the-" I start saying, before a small crowd gathers before me. I'm suddenly aware I'm not wearing my mask. I groan in desperation, and perhaps the complete and total loss of my secret identity.
Miss Martian is floating above the group, and directs a question to me, saying, "Who are you?"
"I'm with Batman, I swear, you can ask him! I don't know why I ended up here instead!!" I'm starting to breath harder. I shakily say, "I'm Dark Web. I would shake your hands, but I'm a little caught up at this moment." Of course I'm trying to cope with my trauma and problems with humor. Is that why Nightwing likes me so much?
Kid Flash starts laughing, but no one joins in with him, and I realize that it's the Flash's grandson. Seriously Flash? "No seriously dude, that's crash." He says, bumping the Blue Beetle in the shoulder. And when he says this, I know it's Bart Allen, Tim's friend. Which meant all of Tim's friends were... superheroes.
An Atlantean with gills, Lagoon Boy I think asks, " How do we know you're telling the truth?"
"Vivi- Dark Web, whatever your name is, I thought you were the new anti-hero in Gotham? The one that's working with the Red Hood?" Cassandra Sandsmark from the party, or more widely known as Wonder Girl, asks.
"No we're not friends, I promise. He just helped me out a few times. I'm a hero."
Suddenly, my head burns. All my memories begin flashing through my mind, like it was nothing but a flip book of my best and worst experiences.
"She's telling the truth." Miss Martian's eyes stop glowing, and she floats down.
I'm brain dead for a few seconds, and my my ears start ringing, but I can out someone is yelling at Miss Martian because she's done something wrong. I had just relived all my worst memories. Every death, every loss. And you know the one thing in common? They were all my fault. Was it to much to ask from myself to keep the tears at bay?
