A/N: words: 1893. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BUCKY. so, yeah, its a christmas special, my bad, but i will be writing a birthday oneshot for bucky, so that will be happening, never fear. i am VERY obsessed with the people of Delacroix who knew sams parents. I HONESTLY LOVE WHEN PEOPLE COMPARE SAMBUCKY TO EITHER OF THEIR PARENTS BECAUSE ITS SO SOFT BRO. anyway, enjoy!
"Sam-"
"No, no, hear me out." Sam retorted. Bucky rolled his eyes. Sam had been on bed rest for a little less than three weeks. It was inching ever closer to Christmas, and they had limited Christmas decorations. There was a Christmas tree lot that Sam and Sarah always went to as kids, and he'd been nagging Bucky to take him. But, Sam still had 4 broken ribs. So Bucky was a little hesitant. Bucky had been making dinner when Sam brought it up, seated at the island across from Bucky.
"You aren't supposed to be walking, Samuel."
"First of all, James," Bucky rolled his eyes a second time. "We have no Christmas tree, and secondly, it's a tradition."
"I will get the tree, you have to rest."
"Bucky." Sam drew the word out, sighing. "Please, just let me have this. I'll bring the damned crutches, I just wanna- it's tradition." Sam pleaded, his voice going gentle. Bucky sighed, looking up from the peppers he was chopping up.
"You promise me you'll be careful? Bring your crutches?"
"Promise." Bucky pursed his lips together, shaking his head softly.
"Fine, but you gotta swear-"
"I'll be careful." Sam cut him off, rolling his eyes. Bucky smiled, turning back to the cutting board, sparing a few more glances at Sam.

"You shouldn't be here!" Sarah told Sam once they got to the tree lot.
"Sarah, it's fine. Mr Irrational approved it." Sam retorted, causing Bucky to sigh.
"Okay, hilarious, you're hilarious, can we go?" Bucky asked, faux annoyance dripping into his tone. Sam snickered, nodding his head. Sarah called for the boys, who both came running from god knows where they were, and they started for the lot.

"Uncle Bucky! What about this one?" AJ called out, dragging Bucky to where Cass stood, shaking his head.
"AJ, have you ever seen a house where something this size of a tree could fit?"
"It's an awesome tree. Besides, you don't know, Cass. "
"Yes I do!" The older one of the two retorted, sighing. "Uncle Bucky, what do you think?"
Bucky clicked his tongue. "Well, on the one hand, AJs making a good point, it's a cool tree." Cass scoffed. "But, Cass, you are technically correct, there was no way this would fit in our house." Cass smirked in triumphant, a look identical to Sam. Bucky grinned as AJ rolled his eyes at his brothers antics, looking too much like his mom. "So, we're gonna need to find another tree."
"Fine by me." Cass muttered, dragging Bucky along before AJ could string up a retort.

Sam was leaning next to one of the fences, watching as Bucky talked animatedly to his nephews, jokingly toss AJ into the tree, making the two kids erupt in laughter. He felt a presence beside him, turning to see Carlos, of all people, standing beside him.
"Don't let that boy go, Sam." Sam smiled, looking down at his feet. "You two... it's like I'm watching a film reel of your folks. You gonna lock him down or what?" Sam huffed out a laugh.
