I waited with my team, shifting anxiously on my feet. Where is Rose?

I wanted to tell her today. No more hesitating. No more chickening out. I had liked Rose for so long, but I kept missing my chance. Either I got nervous or something interrupted us.

But not today. Today, I would finally tell her.

Just as I was going over what to say, Ambrosia approached us.

"Hawk, can I talk to you for a minute?" she asked sweetly.

I hesitated, but nodded, following her to a secluded clearing.

Astoria's POV

We watched Hawk leave with Ambrosia, leaving the rest of us to wait for Rose. I tapped my foot impatiently. "Where is she?"

We were all waiting for Rose, but—as usual—she was late.

"She's probably shopping for shoes again," Travis said with a smirk.

The others laughed.

"She definitely has a problem," Joy added. "I mean, I get that her granny is Cinderella, but she acts like shoes are the most important thing in the world."

"She can't go five seconds without talking about her fairytale collection," Ling Ling said, rolling her eyes. "It's like—girl, we get it! You love fairytales. But can we focus for once?"

I sighed. "And don't forget her clumsiness. She's always falling or tripping over something."

More laughter.

It wasn't that we hated Rose—we loved her. She was our friend.

But sometimes... she could be a handful.

We had a huge test in Magic Studies yesterday, but Rose? She was too busy talking about some rare enchanted shoes she wanted. She barely studied, and I could tell Professor Beast wasn't happy.

And when we had a team mission last week? She tripped—twice—and almost knocked me over.

We were frustrated.

We weren't trying to be mean. We were stating facts.

Right?

But then—

CLANG!

I spun around to see a suit of armor crashing to the ground.

The hall went dead silent.

I saw a flash of blonde hair disappear around the corner.

My stomach dropped.

Rose...

She heard us.

Hawk's POV

"So, what did you want to talk about?" I asked Ambrosia once we were only.

She smiled. "Do you have a girlfriend?"

My face heated instantly. "N-No, I don't," I stammered, though my heart screamed. I want Rose to be my girlfriend.

"Why do you ask?" I added.

Ambrosia took a step closer. "Because... I really like you, Hawk."

I froze.
