So Dani had been left in the corridor unsure if she was allowed into the base. She felt like exactly like she should like she'd just been given into trouble by a teacher. She also felt like an idiot.
What had she learned on the walk round. Ms Foster was divorced and was quite partial to women. She also learned that she was funny, strict and thinks I'm a dumb cop. She can be sweet, she likes the student she seen in her eyes and there was definitely something going down between her and the PE woman Tracey. Bad blood. She had picked up on the body language, when she said her name. I'm not that dumb. I know you don't like her she thought. The bell went and in an instant the place was swarming with sweaty teens running from the PE block.
"Dani, were you waiting for me?" Tracey smiled as she approached from along the corridor.
"Hi, I was..."
"Well I'm on canteen duty but if you want to join me I'll buy you a coffee."
Dani looked at her office. She didn't really want to have coffee with Tracey who was now less than subtly checking her out. But it's was her first day and she didn't want to be rude.
"So how you getting on with Isla?" The Blonde asked while they headed to the canteen.
"Yeah she seems nice."
"Good, she might be a bit unstable at the moment. You'll probably have worked out by now her wife left her."
"I had figured something had gone down."
"Yeah weren't even married a year. He ex worked here taught Chemistry."
"Okay" Dani didn't want to hear the details at least not in this way, from this source.
"Anyway, so your first day going well so far?"
"Yeah good had a tour of all the high crime areas, like the canteen, toilets and bike sheds"
"We don't have bike sheds"
"I was joking"
"Oh right" Tracey gave a fake giggle.
"Read the handbook, met a few students. Been alright. Isla was talking about the crime prevention group on the way round says we usually head that up, starting with an anti bullying initiative"
"Yeah. So a group of us usually go out for first day drinks in town if you fancy." She smiled and Dani noticed the blonde look at her lips. God she's so obvious.
"I'll think about it."
"Well while your thinking I'll go grab you a coffee"Isla walked into the canteen with Christie. Who had quickly abandoned her, for her friends. She looked around spotting Dani sitting on her own. She started heading towards her to explain why she had, essentially spoken to her the way she did when she noticed Tracey stroke the cops arm, hand her a coffee and sit down across from her. Yeah that's about right she said to herself as she spotted some boys play fighting "come on break it up"
Dani followed the shout across the space and seen Isla. She smiled over. Isla either didn't see her or ignored the smile. She thought Isla looked lonely, lost. She wanted to hold her and tell her she was beautiful. That her wife whoever she was was an idiot for letting a woman like her go. Yeah Dani confirmed to herself, I'm smitten first by Isla's shy kindness on the shore front last week. By her awkwardness and now she was someone who needed saved.
Dani had always had a hero complex that she needed to fulfil. That's partly why she was in the police. But she also she needed to be needed in a relationship sure she needed to be desired and loved. But she needed all three.
She had only ever had this once in her life. Mira, who she spent three years at University with but the proposal after graduation resulted in a no and I am going home to Birmingham and I never want to see you again. Dani had been left pretty much broken. She joined the police. Had maybe two semi serious relationships since lasting about 9months and year but she'd been single for the last eighteen months, with the occasional bit of fun thrown in.
But Isla Foster, presented Dani with a whole set of feelings she'd forgotten about for a long time. I just need to find a way to see if she likes me.
"Hello earth to Dani" Tracey was waving in her face.
"Sorry"
"Yeah I lost you there. I was saying that we go out to a quiz on Thursdays. If you can't make it tonight."
"Right" I wish she'd stop trying so hard. It really bugging me now. "Tracey, I appreciate you being friendly but if your looking for something more, you're not really my type. Sorry"
"Well I was just being nice. Maybe you should get over yourself" the PE teacher stood up and walked away.
Dani stood up and joined Isla.
