Chapter Four

Isla woke up cuddled into her pillow in the dream she'd just had that pillow would have been called Dani and they'd both be naked.

They'd watched the sunset yesterday. It was the perfect romantic setting. She'd been brave enough to snuggle in but had pulled back at the moment they should have kissed. She seen the disappointment in Dani's eyes when she done that, so she very irrationally made some excuse about marking and literally run back to her car. She'll know now that I'm a useless at all of this.

Dani stepped out of the shower and wiped the condensation from the mirror. She looked at her face for a moment her wet hair slapped against her forehead. She thought about how perfect last night had been. Isla snuggled into her shoulder while they talked until it got dark. I should have just kissed her. I think the moment I took to decide was too long to give her time to think. She's obviously scared to get involved again. And I always knew she was shy. I'm a bit scared too, but I've not felt like this about anyone in years.

She switched on her electric toothbrush. She seen her phone light up.

Isla: Hey you, hope everything goes okay today. Thanks for last night. I'm sorry I acted like an idiot x

Dani: Morning Doc :) anytime. Can I call you later? X

Isla: Yeah I'd like that x

"Dani, watch your time"
"I know." She throws a vest and pants on and exits the bathroom. "Sorry, was just texting"
"Let me guess. Isla?"
Dani smiles at her sister.
"You've got it bad, dude."
"Yeah. You'd totally get it if you met her Cait."
"Well invite her over, I want to meet the woman whose turned my sis to goo. In the meantime we're leaving in 15minutes so get your butt in gear"

Dani sat in the passenger seat of Billy's SUV which was emblazoned with advertising for his tree felling business. She look across at her sister who looked tiny behind the wheel.
"Dan, What you thinking about?"
"I'm in one of those philosophical why am I still here moods, few centimetres between life a death."
"You shouldn't have stopped the counselling you know"
"Yeah well I wanted to get back to work, and I don't usually like dwell on it."
"Yeah" Cait nods her head. "Just think about your girl instead"
Dani half laughs, "I wish she was my girl. I think I was meant to meet her, you know I went back to the same spot three days in a row in the hope of running into her again"
"Dani, just take it slow. You said yourself she just out of what seems like a very messy relationship"
"Yeah, she's just so shy sometimes. I went to kiss her last night and she literally run away. The boys in the DofE group call her frigid foster and the teachers say her wife slept around a lot and complained that Isla was no use in bed."
"You shouldn't listen to gossip"
"Yeah, but she must think that about herself for her to be so shy"
"Dani, stop overthinking things. If it's meant to be then it will. I mean, I met Bill in Spain. We lived on opposite sides of the country. It was meant to happen. You've only known this woman what four weeks."
"Yeah. But just like. Like I knew instantly,"
"How do you think she feels about you?"
"I think she's scared and shy. But she likes me."
"Then just take it slow. Tell her that. That you can take things slow"

"Thanks." Isla takes Daniels lead from Beth.
"So," her friend smiles.
"So we almost kissed and I run away" Isla shakes her head.
"So she definitely likes you then."
"Hope so, because I can't stop thinking about her and I've never stopped off like that just to see someone."
Beth smiles. "Well next time let her kiss you".
"If there is a next time. I've probably confirmed all gossip she'll have heard"
"Hey, if she's that narrow minded. She's not worth it. You heard from her since the non kiss."
"Not last night, which I think I would have liked. But I text her this morning and she messaged back."
"Well there you go. See what today brings and don't overthink it."
"Yeah look I better go I'm already running late. Thanks for looking after the boy."
"Anytime. See you tomorrow. Been ages since we've all been out"
"Yeah should be good."
