Chapter 24: Pepe's Mystery

"Psyduck, Psyduck! (This way, this way!)" Plucky Ducky said as he hurried the heroes to follow him.

The heroes followed Plucky Ducky through the biggest city known to pokemon- Yewnork City, on their way to find the 7th hero.

Yewnork was just what you expect from a huge city. Skyscrapers, business buildings, etc. But, it was different. Both humans and pokemon walked, lived, and did things together. They even built the city together. And, of course, with any big city, dark secrets lie in the shadows...but that is a story not meant to be told here today.

"Pepe, stay on my back, this city is really sketchy..." Zappy whispered to Pepe as she climbed onto his back.

"Your entire world is sketchy, Zappy-" Pepe mumbled as she curled up on Zappy's back.

"You, yh, mean 'ours', Pe-" Zappy began to say, but she fell asleep almost instantly.

Storm trotted over to Zappy and asked, "Does Pepe always have those odd moments of...maturity? No...being psychedelic, I guess?"

"You mean like..?" Zappy asked back, confused.

Storm shook his head. "Like, after Willow beat the shhhhista out of those Espeon robots, I complained that she didn't let them finish saying what they wanted and now we wouldn't know, and I SWEAR I heard Pepe mutter, 'At least for now...'! But when I asked her what she said, she seemed confused. Then there was right now, when she said 'your' instead of 'our', which is kind of creepy and weird.."

Zappy stopped walking and looked at Pepe on his back. The others noticed this, and stopped walking.

"Ps psyduck! (Hey, what's the slowdown for? We have to get going!)" Plucky Ducky piped up.

Zappy sighed and looked at Storm. "I....I don't really know...she's been doing that for a few weeks. Part of her eyes always turn a light purple when she does it, and she's completely confused after it happens."

"Uh, what are you guys talking ab-" Crystal questioned.

Candy, eavesdropping on the entire conversation, piped in, saying, "Well, maybe we should get her checked. What if Hewa is controlling her when that happens!"

"Okay, now that's just stupid. For one, if Hewa could take control of other pokemon, why choose Pepe? And two, why not try to hurt us while being Pepe instead of just being mysterious and mature?" Willow told the others.

"Okay what are we talking abo-" Crystal tried to ask.

"Well, would it be a random pokemon doing it? I think not." Storm butted in.

"LET ME SPEAK!" Crystal yelled as Plucky Ducky fell asleep against a nearby cart. "WHAT ARE WE TALKING ABOUT?!?!? WHO ARE WE TALKING ABOUT?!?"

"Pepe, and how part of her eyes have been turning a light purple whenever she says something mysterious or mature." Zappy told Crystal.

"Oh, well, I haven't noticed that at all while being around her..."

"You wouldn't notice your own tail being chopped off.." Storm remarked.

Before Crystal could yell back at Storm, Willow stepped in. "Shut. Up. Both of you. Right now, we can't really know what is happening to Pepe-"

"Definitely cannot..." Pepe mumbled in her sleep. Zappy gently laid her on the ground and backed up.

"That is so freaking terrifying..." Candy said, using Crystal as a shield.

"A-a-anyways.." Willow continued, clearing her throat. "We can't know who is controlling her, if anyone...She may just be developing Espeon abilities-"

"No." Crystal firmly said. "Just no. If anyone here knows Espeon abilities, it's me. I think I may know who is controlling her though - The person who wrote the prophecy."

Everyone looked at each other, then at Pepe, and then at Crystal.

"We cannot be fully certain yet-" Willow said.

"But it's our best guess for now." Zappy said firmly as Storm placed Pepe back onto his back.

"She'll be okay..." Storm comforted Zappy as they started to walk again.

But suddenly, a familiar voice came from the cart Plucky Ducky decided to sleep against.

"Hey! Y'all with the defective Eevee! You forgot your Psyduck friend!"
