12: Waking up After Surgery

I hear beeping coming from somewhere around me. My eyelids feel heavy but I don't feel super tired. I slowly open my eyes to a blinding white light. Whilst squinting I look over to my left. I see Shoto sitting in a chair beside me. He's fast asleep though. Poor thing. He must've been worried out of his mind about me. 

I manage to sit myself up a little bit. I sit there for a little while. Just observing my precious Peppermint sleeping. He's so cute when he's asleep. Then again he's always cute. I think to myself. But then I get bored of it.

"Shoto. Shoto, honey. Wake up."

He groggily opens his eyes to see you awake.

"(Y/N). You're awake. How are you feeling?"

"Better. My leg doesn't hurt. But I'm still kinda sleepy."

"Hmm. Must be the anesthesia. You need some time to wake up a little bit. But I'm glad you're feeling better."

Recovery Girl walks over to the pair of us.

"Ah. You're awake dearie. How do you feel?"

"Better thanks to you ma'am."

"I'm just doing my job dear. Now, you get some rest. You had a big surgery on your leg. But it was successful. You should be able to walk within the next month or so. But until then you'll need to keep your leg in this cast, be in a wheelchair, and come and see me on weekly basis. I don't want to drain too much of your stamina dear."

"I understand. Thank you. Not just for what you did for me today, but for what you do for all the staff and students at UA when they're sick or injured. You do an amazing job taking care of all of us."

"Oh, that's so sweet dear. Not many people say that. That made my day dear."

"I'm glad I could make you smile."

"That's my girl. Always wanting to make people smile."

I and Todoroki kiss really quickly. 

"Well, now then. Let's get you out of that gown and into your school clothes."

"Yes ma'am. Shoto, could you please stay and help me? I could use the support while I try to stand on my left leg."

"Of course, love. Whatever you need."

Recovery Girl and Todoroki help me to stand after I get my gown off in order to get my school uniform on. The skirt was a little tricky. I had difficulty balancing on one leg, but Todoroki supported me the whole time along with Recovery Girl. Then they were able to sit me down while I got my shirt and tie on.

"Okay, love. Are you ready to be transferred into your wheelchair?"

"As I'll ever be."

"Okay. I want you to put your arms around my neck and hold on as tight as you can without hurting me. Then, on the count of three, I'm gonna lift you up and set you into the wheelchair. Recovery Girl, ma'am, could you hold the wheelchair steady while I try to set her in there?"

"Sure thing dear."

"Thank you, ma'am. Okay, Snowflake. Are you ready?"

"Yeah."

"Okay. Arms around my neck." I place my arms as instructed. "Okay then. On the count of three. 1... 2... 3. Ugh. Hi."

"Hi."

"Okay. Let's get you into the wheelchair. Ugh. There. Comfy?"

"Mostly. I am gonna be in this thing for a while so I may as well get used to it."

"That's my girl. You always try to make the best of things. And hey, you won't be pushing yourself from place to place. That's gonna be all me Snowflake. I don't want you to wear out your arms while your leg is healing."
