kate and i walk into an italian restaurant and i order a table for 2, which we're seated opposite each other. i pass a menu to kate opposite me and we look through it. "how hungry are you?" i ask kate, placing my menu down. "like a 6 or 7 out of ten, why?" "do you like spaghetti?" i ask. kate nods in response, looking at me. "wanna share one? i'm not too hungry to finish a meal by myself, unless you want a meal to yourself that's okay too," i suggest. "yeah, of course!" kate says.
kate and i head back to my car after i pay, smoke coming out of our mouths. we stop at my car and i open the passenger door for kate. "thank you." she says, getting in. once she's fully in, i close the door, heading to the other side. i get in, immediately turning on the heater in the car, as well as the seat heaters. "ooh!" kate exclaims as she looks and feels the seat. "seat's warm, right?" i say, smiling as i drive out of the curb.
i drive up kate's driveway, stopping the car once i'm close enough. kate unbuckles her seat belt, looking at me. "thank you for dinner, y/n." she says with a soft smile. "of course, do you want me to walk you to your door?" i ask, smiling back. kate smiles wider, vaguely biting her bottom lip to stop her from smiling wider. "if you want." she replies softly. i smile, unbuckling my seatbelt. kate and i get out of the car, shutting the door at the same time. kate meets with me at the end of my car and we walk to her front door. "thanks for having dinner with me." i say once we reach her door, kate opposite me. "by the way, you have a nice house!" i say, making kate smile. "thank you." she responds. i can't help but smile back, and kate moves forwards, hugging me. i hug her back tightly, wishing i could never let go.
kate and i abruptly pull apart from the hug as her front door opens, showing kate's mom. she looks at kate first then realizes i'm here, looking at me now. "hey, miss bishop!" i start off. "it's really nice to finally meet you." i say, smiling. "hey, you must be y/n, right?" she replies, smiling back and i nod my head. "kate's been talking allll about you." she says, looking at kate. "mom!" kate says, with a hint of embarrassment. "anyways," kate mom says, turning her gaze back to me, "i saw your car pull up on the driveway, so i'd thought i would come open the door for kate. but thanks for walking here and taking her home safely." she says. "of course, miss bishop." "you can call me eleanor, y/n." she says. "sorry, eleanor." i say, making her smile. "i should probably go in now..." kate says, and i look at her, nodding. kate smiles, walking in her house as her mom moves back. "thanks for taking me home and for dinner again, y/n." kate says, leaning against the door frame. "of course, kate. it was great meeting you, eleanor." i say, looking behind kate. "great meeting you too, hopefully we meet again." she says politely. kate gives me a small wave and i wave back, moving back from the door. i turn around, walking to my car as i hear the door shut. kate's mom likes me, right?
i sit in the car, waiting for the seats to heat up as i reverse out. i park in the curb beside kate's house, opening snapchat. i open kate's snap she just sent me, smiling as i read it. "my mom totally likes you!!" it says, kate smiling in the picture. i laugh quietly, taking a photo of myself smiling. "so glad, she's nice" i type, sending it. a few seconds later, kate snaps me back. "you better not be snapping me and driving" the text reads. i turn my back camera on, showing i'm parked on a curb. "don't worry, on a curb. gonna go home now i'll snap you when i'm back" i text, sending it as i put my phone down, starting to drive.
kate's pov
"come in!" i yell and the door opens, showing my mom. "that hug was steamy!" she says, pulling the word 'steamy' out. i feel my face go red as i realize there's a camera that shows who's at the door, and another camera where the driveway is. "don't even, mom!" i say as she sits on the end of my bed. here we go. "is she y/n stark?" she asks. i hum in response, and a smile forms on her face. "like, the daughter of tony stark?" she asks, dumbly. "yeah, why?" i say, looking up. "do you like her?" mom asks, smirking. "no, i don't." i reply, voice unsteady. "you're totally lying! you can tell me, kate." she says. i sigh, not knowing what to say. "she's out of my league anyways." i mumble, knowing it's the truth. "what? are you kidding me? you are not out of her league! actually, you're very much in it." she starts off.
y/n's pov
i get home, opening the garage door. "hey, y/n." i hear my mom say. "hi." i reply, seeing her in the kitchen. i walk to the fridge, opening it. i hear video game noises on the couch and i turn around, showing evan on the couch, on his ipad. "shouldn't he be asleep? it's almost 10." i ask, turning back to the fridge. "uh... yeah, probably. evan, go get ready for bed, please." she says, and i take a small chocolate mousse out of the fridge, closing it. evan walks to the guest bedroom, going to get ready for bed. i walk him as i sit on the bar counter, opening the chocolate mousse. "do you always go out? and come back at this time?" mom asks. "yeah, maybe even later. not like dad cares, he's out more than i am." i say, eating a spoonful and getting another. she nods, tensing up. "listen... i'm not sure how long evan and i are gonna stay here. we don't really have anywhere to go... ever since his dad died." she says, and i look up. "things have been really hard for him, and it's hard for me to find a stable place for him to be safe." she says, and i nod understandably. "i'm sorry for your loss." i say, and evan comes running out. "there's no more toothpaste." he says. "there's some in one of the top storage drawers." i say, placing the chocolate mousse cup in the bin. "i... can't reach." he admits, slightly embarrassed and i walk over to him. "i'll get some for you." i say, and we walk to the guest bathroom. i open the storage drawers, taking out a toothpaste box. "here..." i say, taking out the tube from the box and placing the box in the bin, handing him the tube. "thanks, y/n." he says. i remember what mom said about his dad, feeling bad. "let me know if you need anything else, okay? my home's yours." i say, smiling. his face lights up in a smile, nodding. "thank you." he says, and i smile, walking out.
"i just wanna let you know," i say, sitting on the stool again, "you can stay here for as long as you want. whether it'd be a few days, weeks, months, years- however long. i mean, it's not my house, but you have my vote." i say, and mom smiles warmly. "thank you, y/n. i'll need to think a lot about it though." she says, and i stand up from the stool. "yeah, plus... i think it would be good for you two to stay here, there are nice schools for evan to go to." i say, walking to the stairs.
a/n - finally things are working out! please remember to vote
