CHAPTER 15 - text

kate and i walk beside each other down the hallway as the home bell goes, and we get to the steps. "hey, y/n!" i hear a voice say behind me. i stop, turning around. william jogs up to me, waving. "hi, william." i say, turning to him. "y'know you can call me will." he says, a little out of breath. "okay... will." i say, with a smile which he returns. "i just wanted to let you know that you and kate," he says, slightly turning his head to kate and gives a nod, then turning back to me, "did a really good performance. major props for performing in front of a thousand people." he says. "thanks! i agree, it was pretty good." i reply.

kate's pov

i switch my glances between william and y/n talking, awkwardly standing beside y/n. this couldn't get any more awkward for me. "so uh, i was wondering- if you're free... if you wanted to hang out sometime." william says nervously. spoke too soon. "yeah, sure." y/n says and i turn around, walking down the steps as i can't bare to hear their conversation now. i bet y/n won't even realise i've left.

y/n's pov

"yeah, just text me whenever, i'll check my schedule." i say, ending the conversation a little impatiently as i see kate walk off a few seconds ago. "awesome, i gotta go to the other side of the school now, see you!" will says, smiling as he turns around to head back into the school. i turn around to the steps, seeing kate not that far. i quickly run down the steps, bag bouncing against my back. i run up to kate, slowing down once close.i wrap my arms behind her, making her stumble a little. my body presses against her bag, kate still walking slowly. "why'd you leave?" i ask. "it was... awkward." kate admits. my eyebrows furrow, letting go of her, walking beside her. "sorry." is all i manage to say, looking at kate. she stares at the floor, as if something's bothering her. "are you okay?" i ask. "mhm." she hums as she unlocks her car. "are you su-" i say, kate cutting me off as she gets in her car. "y/n, i really have to get home." she replies, a little annoyed. i decide not to push any more, nodding understandably. "see you tomorrow." kate says blandly, looking at me as she reverses her car. "see you." i say, walking to my car.

i turn off my phone, thinking of why mj asked that out of the blue.

kate's pov

"i told you, idiot!" mj says as we face-time. i roll my eyes in defeat, reading the messages. "wait... why're you so concerned?" mj says, smirk forming on her face. "i don't like y/n... i was just- wondering if she swings both ways. y'know, seeing how all the girls at our school are head over heels for her." i reply. "yeah, just like how ross and rachel were on a break?" mj says. "they were on a break." "yeah, you're right." mj agrees, laughing. "so, did you say that william asked y/n out in front of you?" "yeah, he literally did. he was all like 'i was wondering if you're free.'" i say in a deep voice, mimicking will's voice. mj laughs at my voice, shaking her head. "did y/n say yes?" mj asks. "yeah, she did." i say, making mj sigh. "you realize that y/n hasn't dated anyone from this school, right? the most the hang out will be would be a hang out. plus, the only person she'd date from the school would be you, like theoretically." mj says, smiling. my eyebrows raise a little, trying not to smile my guts out. "that's if  she even likes me." i say, not realizing what i said. "wait so you actually like her?" mj says. i sigh in defeat, knowing there wasn't a point hiding it. "I KNEW IT!" mj yells, making me laugh. i cover my face, feeling weight lift of my shoulders. "you're totally jealous of will!" mj says. i groan in defeat and mj laughs in victory. "make a move on her!" mj says. "what?! no! i already did when i was drunk, she totally turned me down." i say. "she only turned you down because you were drunk!" mj says. 

"i don't wanna ruin what we have right now if she ends up rejecting me, that would be the worst." i say, seeing a notification come down from my screen. "speaking of her, she just texted me. gotta go!" i say with a grin. "wha-" mj says, but i hang up.

y/n's pov

i turn my phone off, getting out of bed. i walk a few steps to the guitar stand, taking my guitar off it and sitting back on my bed, sitting as i lean my head on the soft velvet headboard. after a while of playing, i hear a knock on my door. "y/n?" dad says on the other side of the door. "yeah?" i respond. "verse me in pool?" he says. a smile forms on my face and i get up, placing the guitar on the stand. i open the door, seeing dad standing there. "you're on!" i say.

i line the white ball to the other balls formed as a triangle, pulling back and hitting the ball. it breaks nicely, getting a few in. "good break." dad says as if he's a commentator, eyes a little squinted as some balls go in. i smile, moving around the table to figure out where to go next.

"THE BETTER STARK WINS!"  i yell as i get the black ball swiftly in, cheering. dad rests the palm of his hand on his face, laughing. "you've gotten a lot better, y/n!" dad says, placing the pool cue on the rack. "yeah, i practice here and there." i say, smiling still.
