Angsty again, but lots of comfort. If it makes you feel better, next chapter will be smutty and fluffy 🥰

Y/N sat on the couch and watched the flames dance in the fireplace. She had been in the same spot for hours, only moving when a shiver ran through her. She wore a loose sweater with thick pants and socks. Even with a blanket wrapped around her shoulders and the fire roaring, it was still cold in the little cabin. When the sun set, the temperature dropped more suddenly than she had anticipated. Now she was stuck waiting for the room to warm up.

A whirlwind of paranoid thoughts circled her mind. I got too comfortable. I wasn't even ready to run. What the fuck was I thinking?  Y/N had been in a constant state of anxiety for so long that she moved from gnawing at her lip to biting her nail beds. She worked her way from finger to finger, while her eyes burned from staring at the bright flames. I should've at least told Levi that I was leaving. I could have made up some lie to give him some closure. I should've done that.

Just as Y/N's eyelids started to fall and exhaustion pulled her under, she heard footsteps on the front stairs.

I didn't lock the front door, the slap of the realization stung.

She leapt up from the couch just as the front door whipped open. Her body surged with adrenaline yet again; she was ready to do anything to escape. She knew she could fit through the window in the kitchen just behind her and the window in the bedroom through the door to her left. The cabin wasn't fully furnished yet, but there were also knives in the drawer in the kitchen.

Y/N was so busy mapping out an escape, or planning a fight, that it took her mind a few seconds to fully recognize that it was Levi standing in her cabin. Her adrenaline plunged as she tried to figure out how he had made it to the cabin.

"Levi? What the fuck are you doing here?"

He held her gaze as he walked around the couch and directly to her.

No, no, no. He can't be here, she panicked as he got closer. Say something to make him leave.

It wouldn't have mattered what she said anyways. His arms closed around her shoulders before she could tell him to get out. He pulled her close and burrowed his face in the crook of her neck. The blanket hung behind her between her dangling hands as she awkwardly stood in his embrace.

"Are you okay?" He asked against her neck.

Y/N tried to look at him, but she couldn't see his face. That's his first question? Y/N didn't understand. I went to hang out with Hange then never came back, and he's worried about my well-being?Shouldn't he be mad?

"What?" Y/N asked.

Levi finally lifted his head and stepped back, but he didn't release her. He held her at arm's length as he looked her up and down. When he was satisfied with his inspection, he cupped her cheeks, and his eyes bored into hers.

"Are you okay?" He emphasized each word.

Y/N felt her resolve breaking; she wanted to collapse into him and let him hold her. But the fear of him getting hurt because of her was suffocating. She pulled her face from his hands and turned away from him.

"I'm fine, Levi. Please leave."

Y/N wrapped the blanket back around her shoulders and pulled it tight. It's not as warm as him. She avoided looking at him; she didn't want to see any hurt on his face.

"I don't want you here," Y/N said, but the lie tasted sour on her tongue.

Levi grabbed her wrist and spun her back into his arms. His hold on her was unrelenting. His hand smoothed down her hair as he caressed the back of her head over and over. Y/N was stiff and still wanted to push him away, but she couldn't bring herself to do so. With every stroke of his hand on her head, Y/N got closer to breaking.
