Hi folks!

May I present to you my favorite way to be comforted after a breakdown: sex. (it's also about to get angsty and plot heavy after this for a bit, so enjoy the smut before the storm.)

A few nights later, Y/N woke up to the feeling of Levi's arm draped over her waist. It was still dark outside with only the light of the moon shining through the windows. Levi had developed a habit of sleeping so directly behind her that he often shared her pillow, and at the moment, she could feel him breathing. Y/N turned her head slowly so as not to disturb Levi while she peaked at him over her shoulder. His already thick eyelashes were even more noticeable against his pale cheeks. His lips were ever so slightly parted in his deep slumber, something he had been getting more and more often with Y/N in his bed.

With a soft smile on her lips, she turned her head back to snuggle into her pillow. However, as she did so, she noticed a faint shape in the window across from their bed. Y/N froze. Her breathing stopped, her heart stopped, and the very blood in her veins may have frozen.

She forced her eyes closed. It's probably the horse. The horse must have gotten out of the stable and... walked to the window... Y/N's heart jump started again and began pounding in her ears.

She slowly opened her eyes, telling herself she must have imagined it. Now, instead of a vague shape, Y/N saw the shadowed face of her ex fiancé with a sinister smile standing just outside of her window. He raised his hand and waved at her. Y/N reached behind her to wake Levi, but all she found was a cold, empty bed. Her hand searched the comforter, but she was too scared to take her eyes off of the window.

She watched as he reached for the bottom of the window to lift it up. The wood screeched as it moved.

"Levi..." Y/N whimpered when he stuck his head inside and lifted himself through the window. "Levi, please..." Y/N begged just above a whisper.

"You thought you could escape me?" He taunted.

His movements looked sped up and erratic as he skittered across the room and loomed above Y/N in an instant. She screamed and tried to throw herself back across the bed and away from him.

"Oof!"

The sound of Levi getting the wind knocked from his lungs finally woke Y/N up. She realized she was now perpendicular to Levi with her back across his torso with one hand on his chest and the other on his thigh.

"Gods, Y/N," Levi groaned and tried to shift under her.

Everything looked exactly the same as in her nightmare. She looked from Levi below her over to the window which was now closed and void of any figures. She flinched and lifted her hands off of Levi and leaned forward. She crossed her legs in front of her and let her face fall into her hands with a sigh. She could feel Levi shifting behind her before a hand rested between her bare shoulder blades. Despite herself, she flinched at the contact. The knee jerk reaction was enough to bring tears to her eyes. She didn't want to react like that with Levi, not him of all people. His touch didn't scare her, and she didn't want him to think it did. But all she could think of was that... man lunging at her.

The second Levi saw her recoil he removed his hand. He knew, logically, that it wasn't because of him, not really. Y/N's strange behavior had only gotten worse since they went ice skating. She would mentally disappear during quiet moments in the day. She would force herself to stay up at night until her eyelids grew too heavy to hold open. When she did sleep, it wasn't sound. Levi knew all too well what it looked like to be plagued by nightmares, unable to escape from your own mind.

But it broke his heart nonetheless. Seeing Y/N, his Y/N, flinch away from his hand. It felt like someone had reached into his chest and wrung his heart. This wasn't about him though. He swallowed hard and left his hand hovering behind her back.
