Hello!
I missed you all so much, and I'm v excited to get back to this story. I really do have a lot planned for it, so I appreciate your patience with me during a much needed break. 🥰

Outside of Headquarters, Y/N anxiously paced back and forth with a cloth bag hanging from her shoulder. Inside were the two pairs of ice skates Hange had made for Y/N. The six Scouts that had been assigned to watch over her all stood nearby watching her pace.
Overall, it had been an easy week for them; at any given time, Y/N was either reading in Levi's office or some random spot throughout Headquarters which made for light work for the Scouts. She had also grown so accustomed to following Levi to trainings that the six of them made a routine of working out together. It gave them a little more freedom because they could collectively watch over Y/N if they were all together.
"I thought they were supposed to be here by noon?" Y/N complained to no one in particular.
Leading up to the mission, Levi had been anxious enough for the both of them, so it wasn't until after he was gone that Y/N's own anxiety made itself known. This was the longest mission she had had to endure, and the first where Hange wasn't around to keep her company. For all she knew, he was already on the back of that fucking cart again.
"We can wait inside, Y/N," Ilse offered for the third time.
"I'll stay out here, and get you as soon as they come into view," Otto hoped his additional offer might convince her.
"It's fine."
"Y/N... Captain is going to kill us when he sees you standing out in the cold. There was frost on the roofs this morning," Luka tried to reason.
Y/N glared at him. "First of all, I'm my own person. Neither you nor Levi can tell me whether or not I can go outside, and he knows that," Y/N snapped and looked back to the road. She wanted to leave it at that, but she felt bad. "You're not going to get in trouble, I promise," she sighed.
Six collective sighs matched her own, but to be honest she had forgotten it was cold out. She wore a thick jacket just for Levi, and she had been standing there for so long that the wind had lost its bite. All she wanted was to see someone on the horizon.
"Fucking hell," Y/N mumbled under her breath.
She started up pacing back and forth again as the sun inched across the sky. The Scouts were now taking turns standing with Y/N in pairs while the other four sat just inside the doors. The cloth bag with the ice skates was long abandoned on the ground, and Y/N felt more like throwing up with each step. She had promised to be here when he got back, but he didn't promise to come back: a realization she had an hour ago that was now eating away at her.
When they said goodbye, Y/N was surprised by how openly emotional Levi had been. In front of every single Scout going on the mission, Levi had buried his head into the crook of her neck with a vice grip around her middle. Though she was surprised, she didn't complain; she didn't want to let him go either.
"I'll be here when you get back. I promise," Y/N whispered. Her arms wrapped around his neck, returning his hug.
Levi took a deep breath, released her, and took a step back. He gently held her face from underneath her chin with his thumb on one cheek and his remaining fingers on the other. His eyes bore into hers as he spoke.
"Be safe. Don't do anything stupid."
Y/N thought he was going to keep talking, but instead he awkwardly stopped. Levi pulled her in for a chaste kiss, then he lightly squeezed her face twice before releasing her.
