Kind of a filler, but it's setting us up for some fun chapters in the future. I hope you enjoy it.

Over the next few days, Y/N and Levi settled into living together. Their routine stayed mostly the same with Y/N tutoring Levi in between his meetings and following him around to Scout training in the afternoons. When he did have a meeting to attend, Y/N had time to herself to do as she pleased.

The biggest change was simple: Levi now insisted that she eat breakfast. He consistently woke up before her every morning, so he took it upon himself to grab a small breakfast for Y/N and prepare a pot of tea for them to share. Never in her life had someone woken her up with breakfast and tea ready, but, despite her many objections, Levi had done it four days in a row.

At the moment, Y/N was sitting on the small couch in Levi's office, reading a romance novel out loud to Levi whose head rested in her lap. When she first suggested he lie like that, he was grumpy and stiff to no one's surprise. It also didn't surprise her that his resistance ebbed when she began playing with his hair and scratching his scalp. No better than a cat, Y/N thought. He became so relaxed that Y/N was almost worried he would fall asleep, but when she started reading, he gave her his full attention.

Throughout the week, they had only had a few brief opportunities to read together between meetings, training, and tutoring. Levi had also been the one to read it out loud, so they only managed to read about thirty pages all together. However, that morning Levi informed Y/N that he only had one meeting in the afternoon, so they had all day to read and spend time together. She could have used the opportunity to make him practice reading, but she wanted him to actually relax, so Y/N offered to read in his stead.

It seemed to be going well, even though Levi was silent the majority of the time. She knew going in that it was a slow build kind of book, but she still expected some responses from him. The main characters were childhood friends who were in love with each other. However, due to his arranged marriage, they never confessed. Apparently, this was what finally got Levi.

The moment the frustration of a miscommunication trope set in, he couldn't stop commenting and asking questions. He was furious that the leads wouldn't admit their mutual love, especially once it was confirmed for the reader that the male lead loved her back. The sudden shift in Levi's engagement shocked Y/N; at best she expected a few changes in his facial expression.

This is so much more. When he suggested we read a romance novel together, I didn't expect him to get so invested.

Y/N snickered when she peeked down at him between lines and found him glaring at the ceiling. Levi turned his glare on Y/N when he heard her.

"It's not funny. He's an idiot."

Y/N scoffed. "He doesn't want to hurt his fiancée's feelings!"

"He doesn't love her," Levi said with a straight face.

Y/N looked away from him to hold back her laughter and compose herself. When she was ready, she looked back at him and continued.

"What about his parents? They'll be angry with him if he goes against their wishes," she was trying her best to defend the main character.

"So, he's going to marry someone he doesn't love instead of the person he does love? And has loved for years?" He rolled his eyes and crossed his arms over his chest. "It's stupid."

When Y/N didn't say anything, he looked up at her expectantly. "Keep reading please."

Y/N snorted and obliged. As the story advanced, the main characters went back to a spot on the river where they used to ice skate as kids.
