Hi all!

It's been a wild month. I got accepted into a master's program, and my job is crazy lol. But work is slowing down, and the holidays are coming up! I'm looking forward to hopefully writing more, and maybe some fluffy holiday things 😏 Anyways, thanks as always for being patient.

Standing in the middle of his office, Levi rolled his neck to work out the kink before he looked back down at the paper he held. He was still sore from the mission, but work wouldn't wait for him.

I should go speak with Hange about this, Levi thought and turned towards the door to leave.

Just as he did, he caught the tail end of a figure walking past his open door. Levi squinted and tilted his head before walking forward to peak his head into the hall. He looked down the left and saw nothing, then he looked to the right and saw the black skirts of a dress flutter on the floor as the figure turned the corner.

Levi followed after it.

Something is missing. A feeling of desperation settled in his stomach; the kind that usually accompanied a failed attempt to remember something important.

He turned the same corner he had seen the figure take, and when he did, he saw Y/N's profile for a split second before she walked into the stairwell. Levi had never seen this black dress before. It had long sleeves, and the collar reached halfway up her neck. Her hair was also longer than he remembered.

"Y/N!" Levi called.

This time he ran after her, but it didn't matter. She was always just out of sight.

"Y/N!" He yelled again.

Eventually, he sped up to a full sprint, sliding into walls and slamming through doors. He was out of breath when he slid to a stop just before a set of doors that lead outside. Something told him not to go through them, to stop running because something was waiting on the other side of those doors.

"Wait. Shit," Levi spat. He rubbed his hands down his face, recognizing the nightmare he had already lived through three times before. "Wake up. Wake up!" Levi's heart raced. It wasn't working.

He was trapped in his own mind and incapable of waking himself. He repeatedly slapped his cheek, but he froze when he heard Y/N's voice.

"Levi...?" Y/N cried softly.

It was only a whisper through the door, but it chilled Levi to his bones. His eyebrows pulled together as his eyelids fluttered closed. "No," Levi whispered and shook his head.

"Levi... I need you." Her voice was growing louder.

"Please, no," Levi begged. His palms pressed flat against his ears. "Wake up."

Y/N's sobs snuck past his hands and invaded his ears.

Suddenly, her voice grew angry as she screamed, "WHY AREN'T YOU HELPING ME, LEVI?"

And he jerked awake.

His left arm was stretched out under Y/N's pillow, which prevented him from sitting up. He could just barely see the top of her head sticking out from under the covers. She was facing away from him, undisturbed by his sudden awakening. Levi remained on his back to catch his breath for a few moments before he rolled on his side and formed his body along hers, wrapping his free arm around her torso. His forehead rested against the peak of her spine.

That nightmare first happened after Y/N ran away to her cabin, and it became more frequent while he was on the mission. This was the first time he had woken up inside the dream. Too many times had Levi walked outside and found Y/N being murdered. Each time she died differently, something fresh and increasingly horrific. Conveniently, the exact moment he stepped outside, his movements would slow. As hard as he fought, he could not force his limbs to move fast enough to reach her, so he could only watch as he inched closer. He must have dreamt it one too many times for his subconscious to refuse like that.
