Hi folks!
Trigger Warning: blood 😬

Two months had passed during which Y/N and Levi fell back into their usual routine. Training and missions gradually picked back up as the worst of winter began to pass. Y/N tutored Levi in his down time, and when she accompanied him to trainings, she no longer just sat and read books to pass the time. Instead, Y/N had successfully plotted out the majority of her next book. They had found a comfortable and easy rhythm together.
Y/N was snuggled in their bed one morning, the comforter tucked under her chin, when Levi kissed her temple and stirred her from her sleep.
"I'm leaving, baby," he whispered.
With their shared tumultuous sleeping habits, Levi had taken to kissing Y/N goodbye in the mornings before he went out for his solo morning exercise. Even when he slept well, he would wake just before dawn (it was too engrained into his internal clock), so Y/N always went back to sleep after he left. But if he kissed her goodbye, she wouldn't wake up in a panic when she saw he was gone.
And, of course, Levi loved kissing her goodbye. His heart swelled every time he watched her squeeze her eyes shut before they hesitantly squinted open as if she were suspicious of whatever was waking her. He smiled and kissed her forehead. "I'll be back in a bit."
"Mmm," Y/N lifted her face enough to pucker her lips in Levi's general direction as her eyes were, in fact, closed again. "Mmloveyou," Y/N slurred as she rubbed her face back into her pillow after getting her goodbye kiss.
Levi smoothed his hand over her hair still smiling. "I love you."
Y/N heard his footsteps walk away from her and disappear after he closed the door to their room. She knew she had a few hours before Levi would return with their morning tea which she would sip in bed while he showered.
She usually didn't sleep as well when he was gone, but she found solace in the knowledge that the sun would peak through the windows any minute and the world would be less scary when it did.
While Paradis was crawling towards spring, it was still freezing in the early mornings, and their bed was nice and toasty.
Her sleep was fitful; a cycle of falling asleep just enough to enter into one of her usual nightmares before she jerked awake. After a few rounds of this, sleep finally reached its hands up and pulled Y/N under.
She dreamed of Levi out on his morning runs if she were a bird flying above him. When he finished his run and headed back inside of HQ, she perched on his shoulder and watched him politely greet the Scouts who were just getting their days started. He went to the kitchen and pulled out his special stash of tea leaves and began brewing their drinks. His movements were precise, not an ounce of energy wasted. He had completed this routine countless times; it was muscle memory by now.
When the tea was ready, Levi began the walk up to their room. In an instant, Y/N was back in their bed. She was sitting up writing in a notebook she had never seen.
Y/N read the last sentence she had written: Some things cannot be avoided. There was a moment of hesitation in which she tried to unravel what that meant, but the sound of the doorknob to Levi's office turning caught her attention. She put her pen into the notebook and closed the pages around it. There was no need to put the notebook onto her bedside table as it promptly disappeared.
The sun was bright in the windows as if it were noon rather than the early morning it should have been.
She waited expectantly as his footsteps got closer and closer. Levi stepped into the already open doorway, the same silver tray he always used to carry the teapot and their cups in his hands.
