"Levi, is this really necessary?" Y/N whined.
They were standing on top of the tower where they often ate dinner, and the crisp breeze was cold against Y/N's face. Her arms hung limp by her sides, and she barely held onto the knife in her hand. Levi, meanwhile, was poised and ready for a fight with a firm grasp on his knife. He stood with one foot angled behind the other, the knife hovering in front of his chest, and his free arm was raised up vertically to protect himself.
"You're acting like I'm going to be here alone while you're on your mission."
Levi frowned. "You might as well be."
Y/N sighed. So anxious lately.
"Okay, fine. I still think teaching me to win in a knife fight is overdoing it a little, but fine. How do I stand again?"
"Not like that."
Levi stepped closer and adjusted her stance one flaw at a time. His fingers moved her to stand exactly how he wanted, then he stepped back to review his corrections. With the toe of his shoe, he tapped the inside of her foot, instructing her to scoot it over. Y/N rolled her eyes but followed his instructions. When he was finally satisfied, he took up his own stance in front of her.
"Okay, I'm an intruder that broke into our room. Defend yourself."
Y/N took a deep breath as she tried to remember the first of the many steps he had given her. All she managed was two, hesitant steps forward before Levi lunged. A broken squeak escaped Y/N before Levi was behind her with his knife in front of her throat, though he was careful not to touch her with the blade.
"Oh, Levi, this is pointless," Y/N pouted. "I didn't stand a chance."
She slouched back against him, and his free hand closed around the wrist of the hand that held her knife.
"I didn't disarm you, Y/N. You could have stabbed me at any time," he pointed out.
"I-," Y/N looked down at her knife. "Wait, stop. I'm just supposed to stab someone in the leg?"
"In this scenario, I would actually prefer you aim for the ribs or the gut."
"Wouldn't that kill them, though?"
Levi tilted his head to look at Y/N over her shoulder. "...How did you think defending yourself with a knife would end?"
"I... Well, I don't know, but killing someone... that's a lot. Even if we ignore the immorality of it, I'll get arrested." Panic was creeping up Y/N. She neither wanted to kill someone nor get arrested for killing someone.
Levi sighed and turned Y/N to face him. He held her face with his fingers under her chin and his thumb on top of it.
"I would rather deal with the consequences of you killing someone, than take a chance on losing you."
Y/N stuck her bottom lip out in a pout. "You're really stressed about this, aren't you?"
He just stared at her and continued holding her chin.
"Tell me the steps again. I already forgot them."
Y/N's guilt about being the cause of his anxiety, outweighed her irritation. Whatever makes him feel better.
