Fair warning: this chapter and the next will be angsty, but as always, it's only to further the fluff and the smut. I'm on break, so the chapters will come out quick at least. I really hope you guys enjoy it!

Within minutes of Y/N's feet hitting the grounds of headquarters, Hange swooped in and stole her away. Levi shouted a complaint after them, but in reality, it gave him the time he needed to complete his plan. He walked up the flights of stairs to his office and locked the door behind him.

He grabbed a stack of papers, his old practice papers, his best pen, and the biography, then he sat down at his desk. The first thing he did was address the paper to Y/N, but that was the easy part.

"What does someone write in a letter like this? In a... love letter?" Levi winced, then he realized he had been talking to himself.

For fuck's sake. I've spent too much time around her, he chuckled.

For a while, he just stared at the paper thinking of what he wanted to say. What he settled on wasn't nearly as eloquent as he had hoped, but he knew it wasn't going to get any better. It took four pages before he decided to just write it all down and make all the mistakes in one go. Even after that, it took another two pages before he was confident that everything was spelled correctly.

He signed his name at the bottom, then he admired his new signature. Levi loved how it looked ever since Y/N showed him how she would sign his name. He had spent ages copying her version of his signature, and there was an obvious improvement.

After he folded the letter into thirds, he picked a thin envelope from his desk drawer and slipped the paper inside. With the letter complete, Levi finally realized the sun had set and dinner had passed. That took longer than I expected, he thought. Now I just... have to give her the letter...

A unique feeling fluttered in his stomach. He knew all too well what anxiety felt like, but this was different. This felt lighter and happier. More curious than paranoid. Instead of worrying if he misread things and it's not as serious to her, he shrugged his shoulders and stood up. Levi was confident that his feelings would be reciprocated.

Without further delay, Levi walked to Y/N's room and knocked on the door. She didn't answer, so he turned and made his way to Hange's lab. He knew he would at least find Hange there and ask them where Y/N went. Maybe he could get Hange's opinion of his situation with Y/N.

Levi cringed. No, definitely not that.

On the way, he walked through a hallway that was lined with windows on one wall. The windows began at Levi's hip and reached to the ceiling where an arch topped them off. Moonlight shone through the panes of glass, and it was only broken up by the thin iron rods that crisscrossed the windows.

From the corner of his eye, Levi noticed movement just above the windowsill; two figures stood inside a shadow along the wall. Just as Levi was about to look away, one of them stepped backwards into the moonlight, and Levi recognized the back of Y/N's head.

Why are she and Hange outside? He stopped to look, but for a second, he questioned if he was being rude for spying.

Before he could debate what to do, a man followed Y/N out of the shadows. Levi tensed as he stalked after her. The man loomed over Y/N with a crazed look on his face. He had never seen Y/N look so small. It reminded him of a dog cowering from a violent owner, and it infuriated him.

Aside from the window between them, Levi was two stories above them; he had no hope of hearing what was being said, but it was obvious when the man began yelling. Whatever he said put Y/N on the offensive for the first time. Her shoulders were squared back, and she pointed behind her with her arm fully extended. Levi wondered if she was telling him to leave.
