Hi folks!

I've got some teeth rotting fluff for you today. I hope you enjoy it 😙

"It just seems unnecessarily dangerous," Levi explained for the fourth time as he flicked their blanket into the air and let it float down onto the compacted snow.

Y/N haphazardly tossed the bag she was carrying onto the blanket which elicited an eye twitch out of Levi.

"It's my fault for introducing you to the concept through that book, I'll admit, but in all of the times I've ice skated, I've never seen someone fall through," she explained before mumbling, "Except that one guy..."

"Y/N!" Levi scolded.

She laughed as she did her best to sit down on the blanket despite being a little stiff from her layers of clothing. "I'm kidding," she stretched the word before widening her eyes as she looked away, an action she knew Levi would catch.

His brows furrowed and he crossed his arms. "I can no longer tell if you're joking or not."

Y/N reached up to lace her fingers with his and gently pulled him down to sit next to her. When he plopped down, she left two quick kisses on his cheek and said, "Technically someone did fall through once, but it was a much bigger lake and way too early in the season."

Levi huffed, but Y/N was already looking out over the small body of water that could at best be described as a pond. They were about a five minute walk from the cabin, and aside from the thin shore lining the water, the trees were thick around the pond. Their barren branches were heavy with the snow that had fallen the night before. Today, however, the sun was out and shining, leaving the snow and ice to twinkle in its rays, yet the brisk gusts of wind were still icy against Y/N's cheeks and nose. Their blanket, something Levi insisted on bringing so that Y/N wouldn't sit in the snow while putting her skates on, was laid out on one of the thicker strips of shore.

Admiring the scenery lasted a bit too long, though, and the silence allowed the nagging, gnawing reality that their little escape would be coming to an end within the week to settle like a rock in her stomach. They had waited as long as possible to ice skate, again due to Levi's over cautious insistence, and it had gone by too quickly. Everything waiting for them back at Headquarters felt like dark clouds looming on the horizon.

Levi had been peacefully admiring her observing nature when a shiver ran up her spine. She quickly grabbed the bag and began digging through it. He pressed his lips into a line in an attempt curtail his frown. He'd noticed this shift in her mood more than once over the past few days as well as her immediate attempt to cover it up and focus on something else. One second they would be sitting in what Levi considered to be a comfortable silence, and the next she'd get a haunted look on her face before she started moving or talking. But I'm the one who wears a mask.

He put his hand on top of hers to get her attention. She stilled and looked over to him. He gave her a soft smile and squeezed her hand twice, but he choked on the words he almost instinctively said.

"What?"

He ended up staring at her for a bit too long. "Uh," he cleared his throat. "Did you forget something? We can always go back."

"Nooo," Y/N stuck her tongue out at him. "I meant to bring that liquor we bought last week, but I guess I forgot it."

"You wanted alcohol while conducting a dangerous activity?!" Levi scoffed.

Y/N laughed, her troubles momentarily forgotten (buried deep down) once again. "Alcohol can make relatively safe activities more fun." She bumped her shoulder into his while she pulled out his pair of ice skates. "But it's fiiiiine. We can just drink after," she winked at him.
