Eden
"Do you know this guy?" I asked Gemma as she handed over my coffee order. A caramel frappucino, heavy on the caramel.
"Nope. If he's a friend of Tate's, though, I'm sure he's hot." She followed me over to the table and sat with me for just a moment. Gemma was a mutual friend of Brynn's and myself. She worked at the coffee shop, and we all hung out every once in a while. I enjoyed her company; she was fun and always had a positive outlook. "What's after this? Is the date planned out?" She asked.
"We're meeting here, talking a bit, then dinner. I guess we'll see." I shrugged.
"You look gorgeous, so enjoy yourself. I'm clocking out in a few minutes, but Los will be here, and he's got ya covered." She smiled, nodding over to her boss before taking off.
I sat sipping the caramel goodness, my leg bouncing up and down. I could see my reflection in the window, my long hair in perfect beach waves. Skinny jeans, heels and a nice blouse. I felt pretty. After sitting for about twenty minutes past the meeting time, I was starting to maybe feel not so pretty. Had he shown up, seen me at the table, and left? I had no way to reach out to him, nor did he to me; what if something had happened? I kept bouncing my leg with every thought that came to mind as I continued to wait.
When the clock hit the thirty-minute mark, I decided I was going to go. This was ridiculous, and I looked like a fool sitting here alone. I pulled my phone out of my bag, ready to text Brynn, letting her know her setup failed and demanding that she repay me in the form of a spa day. As I was looking down at my phone, the chair across from me scooted out. I held my breath as I slowly looked up to see one gorgeous-looking man giving me a crooked smile.
"I'm. . are you sure you're at the right place?" I stuttered out. No way this guy was here for me.
"Um, is this table seven?" He rubbed the back of his neck as I watched the muscles in his arms flex. He was tall, easily towering over my small frame. His hair was dark brown, short on the sides, and sticking up all over on the top. His eyes were kind, I couldn't explain it, but I could just see the kindness in their hazel color.
"Ye.... yea. Yes. I'm sorry." I stood up, reaching my hand out to his. "I'm Eden." I introduced myself in the most awkward way possible. His face lit up with a smile, showcasing the most beautiful set of teeth. He nodded gently.
"Nice to meet you, Eden. I'm." He paused for a second as if he wasn't even sure of his own name. "I'm Reed."
"Nice to meet you as well, Reed." When our hands met, his large hand overtaking mine, I felt a warmth fill my body with a coldness taking over the second he let go. He stepped aside, holding my chair out for me to return to my seated position. Once I was seated, he did the same.
"I'm sorry I'm running late; I wasn't sure where this shop was located and got turned around." His apology came off sincere. I was still stumbling over words as I admired his frame in a tight-knit black shirt, arms bulging as he leaned onto the table.
"Oh, that's okay. I was actually about to leave." I laughed nervously. "Guess it timed out perfectly then."
"Ah, yes. I'm glad I made it. Would you like another drink?" he nodded toward my now empty frappucino cup.
"Oh, no, thank you." I nervously fiddled with the cup.
"A little awkward, huh?" His smile filled my belly with butterflies.
"Yeah, I'm not sure why I let Brynn talk me into this." I blurted, then immediately felt bad.
"Brynn?" He asked in confusion.
