FIVE YEARS LATER

"OH COUSIN, YOU SHOULDN HAVE NEVER DOUBTED ME IN THE FIRST PLACE." Kate smirked, lowering her sword just a little as she smugly looked at her older cousin, who looked startled at the floor.

Caspian chuckled and shook his head, standing up back to his feet. "I see you have gotten stronger, Katherine. One day, I might not be surprised when you finally beat me." Kate scoffed, rolling her eyes, "Uhh but didn't I just beat you like three seconds ago?"

"I went too easy on you."

"Hah. That's what he said—"

"En garde!" Caspian took advantage of her speaking and swung his sword forward. Kate barely had time to jump to avoid the sharp blade and scowled, "Hey! That was cheating!"

"You should never let your guard down, Katherine. Enemies won't wait for you to stop speaking before attacking." This time, it was Caspian's turn to smirk. But just before Kate could take her revenge, her name was called by her mother.

"Kate!"

Kate turned and saw Prunaprismia near by the garden, having an angered look on her face. "Uh oh," she whispered underneath her breath. "I thought you said you asked permission before sparring with me?" Caspian's eyes remained widened, also intimidated by the glare his aunt was giving the both of them.

"W-Well, uh, I did!" Kate lied.

"Katherine, let go of your sword and come down here at once!" Demanded Prunaprismia. The sword on Kate's hand was on the floor the next second and Caspian didn't miss the opportunity to pass his adopted cousin a look, "You're dead, Kate."

"And so are you," Kate stuck her tongue out at him before rushing where her pregnant mother is. "Mother! What are you doing out here? You should be in bed, resting." Prunaprismia wasn't having it. She crossed her arms just above her swollen belly, tilting her head a little, "What have I said about sparring?"

"Only boys can spar."

"And about being around Caspian?"

"Father will be enraged."

For some reason, Prunaprismia reminded Kate of the mother she once knew five years ago. Both loved scolding her just because of silly little things. "But mother! Father won't know," she tried to reason out, reaching to help Prunaprismia walk back to the room she shared with Miraz.
